With my registrar, you phone to book and the appointment is held provisionally, then you have to go and give notice within a month, after which the appointment is confirmed.
Just a bit confused as to how the venue could do all the registrar organising on your behalf.Well, leaving aside they fact they obviously didn't anyway.
In some parts of the country, the venue can organise your registrar.
I know that's what's happening with Frannyann and my cousin in Kent was the same when she got married last year.
I'm the same as you, we have to do it all ourselves.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
That's interesting. The main thing I was getting at was giving notice. Are there parts of the country where you don't actually have to go in to see the registrar and do this?0

Shellsuit is right, in Kent where myself and Beks are getting married, the venue books the registrar. Then we get sent a pack, check the details are correct. Pay a fee for the date and then nearer the actual date we then see the registrar to give notice.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -

Yes, that is correct Shellsuit and Franny thanks (you explain it better than me lol - think my mind is frazzled with the whole thing and I dont know if I am coming or going!). The venue should have booked the registrar but has not according to the registrar. We never got sent the pack to complete. The one thing I wouldnt know though is how far in advance the venue does this (ie should they have done it as soon as the wedding was 'booked'). It may all be irrelevant anyway as our papers were submitted today and if he hasn't submitted any we should be one step closer. However, I will take Busterians advice and get further info from the registrar as a precaution.
Thanks so much everyone, couldn't have done it without you all. :T0 -

No all over the country you must give notice, (unless you are getting married in a c of e church).
Once notice is given and not objected too then you are issued authorities (which is a piece of paper like a marriage license) You need these to get married.
You must give notice in the district in which you live, not where you get married. For example, a couple living in Shropshire and getting married in Derbyshire will give notice at their local register office in Shropshire. The authorities must be given/sent to the Registrar in Derbyshire though before the wedding or no wedding can take place.
When you give notice they are only valid at that venue for up to a year. If you decide to change venues you must give (and pay) to give notice again.
Sometimes venues will book the registrar but this must be done well in advance as the 2 Registrars must be available to come to the venue. The majority of times you will speak to the venue and the Registrar will book the venue for you (for the service, not the reception) according to when they are free.
Hope that helps!0 -
I am absolutely gobsmacked by the trouble you have had. I've just sat and ploughed through it all.
I would definitely get onto the media, (they would love a story about a disabled ex-serviceman being ripped off by this ratbag, especially for a wedding), the adverse publicity would affect his bookings, and hopefully put the Azzole out of business. Try your local BBC newsroom, once out there it would snowball.
Cheers HG0 -
Just spent an hour reading all this and OMG I used to work for KCC and knew quite a few people who deal with the births deaths and marriages in Kent - and know the marketing manager who deals with the venues ect. Assuming u have told the registrar what has happened at the venue??? PM me if u would like me to let you know names at KCC ect so u can call KCC next week? They need to be aware of the situation as all venues need to have a licence to hold wedding ceremonies there and they can pull the plug as it were.
Will be keeping a close eye on this as would like to find out if all goes well! Everything crossed for u!!!!
Love and best wishes and New Year Cheer to all x x x
EDIT - just been checking out some of the reviews on trip advisor - most are not good review and its like a few good ones have been thrown in for good measure - which makes me think they may be fake ones and one of the posts had put Nov 28th as date of post but thdeir stay was in December - doesnt make sense!!!!!!!!Eve

Still keeping my fingers crossed for you beks, soooo glad he hasn't replied - hope you soon get your money back now
Tbh, i'm really surprised he didn't give in and refund you when he got the papers knowing that he could probably re sell the date, after so many people knowing about the problems you've had, especially if you go to the media, he stands to lose a considerable amount more and won't stand a chance of re-selling the date - it certainly won't be to anyone i know

LOL!! Thanks LT! We phoned the court yesterday to check that they had received our form and that he hadn't replied first!! Unfortunately, no one from the office was available to talk to us and we have to wait until Monday 4th to check!
You would think with all the waiting we have done I would be used to it but this time, I am sat with baited breath!!! Cannot relax at all or think about anything other than weddings (hence why I am on here all the time :rotfl:!!). Even if our form was in first, I wont relax until we get the money back and that could be a long process. The other good thing is that companies house shows that he has sufficient funds to refund us. It will also go down as a black mark against him in terms of credit companies etc.
Once (or should I say if - I really dont want to count chickens before they are hatched) we have the money back where it belongs, we shall be publicising this everywhere. Already have local news contacts written down!!0 -
Good for you Beks, he's going to lose sooo much business over this!! I certainly won't even go there for a drink now. When, *fingers crossed*, you get your money back, we should all meet there for a drink to celebrate - wait until we're all there and then announce we're moving on to the nearest pub to celebrate the win, lmao!!!0
