  • After notifying them via phone twice that my 16 year old son was staying in full time education I have received my amended child tax credit award and it still says my son is not in full time education and therefore will receive no child tax credit. Fuming and upset.
  • Thanks blondebubbles just spotted the date. It's dated 5th September. Maybe there is another award notice on the way?! I did notify them on the 29th of August and the 2nd of September though.
  • Blondebubbles on the phone as I type.
  • Results of phone call to ctc... No explanation to why I have received the last award notice stating no entitlement to ctc. Should soon be receiving a new award notice and a payment on Monday. Fingers crossed.
  • I told them in August that my daughter was staying on at school yet they've just sent me an amended award saying from the 1st of September that she is no longer a child and I now only have 2 qualifying children. But I told them she was staying on for her final year of exams...argh. My amended award is dated 5th September. It's taking ages to get through to them and that robot who asks you what you are calling for doesn't understand my accent!!!
  • Hi, I received the same letter telling me we no longer qualified even though I had informed them that son was staying on in full-time education. Waited nearly an hour for the phone to be answered, the lady told me that two letters should go out, one up to 31 August and one from 1 September with new award. Apparently, something has gone wrong and the letters are not going out together but she said I should receive one soon with the new award. Right royal mess, bet loads more people than normal are phoning today!! Just a thought but why is it always such a problem, didn't have a problem with Child Benefit, that just went in Tuesday as normal.

I have given up phoning because I was on hold for so long. Will wait and see if a different award arrives over the next few weeks, I start a new job soon so will have to phone them anyway to update my details. I didn't have any problem with my child benefit either. They sent me a form, explained daughter was staying on and roughly told them when she would be leaving next year and got confirmation child benefit would continue. Why can't tax credits make it simpler?
  • Once my son reached 16, I had the same problem too, every year. He receives tax credits until 31st of August but not from 1st September until the day he returns to education. If it was 20th September (it was when he started 6th Form)., that meant I was three weeks short.

To make matters worse.., because my son receives extra tax credits because he is disabled, I am now £240 short (two weeks money).., but it'll get paid back at £4 a week.

You can phone them until you are blue in the face and say your child will start back at school on such and such a date.., they won't start the tax credits again until you phone them on the day or after the day your child actually goes back.
  • My payments went down and knew it would take a week or two to sort out so didn't ring them. However, yesterday I received an amended award that shows my daughter doesn't qualify from the 1st of September. The letter is dated the 5th of September (as I see others are) so very surprised to receive it as thought it would be the one with the correct details on it as the helpline says.

In two minds as to whether to keep phoning as never get through and costing me money.

Hoping the letter is a mistake and payments will be back to normal on Wednesday.

Anyone had the wrong amended letter but had the payments sorted out without a new letter? Or have hmrc messed it up?

I've been following this thread as I am in the same position as many. I have a 16 year old staying in full time education and informed TC of this during August, being reassured that it would continue. However I have received reduced payments for the last two weeks. Because I spotted this thread, although the reduced payments have caused quite a bit of reshuffling of budget, I have waited to see what happens when I get my new notification.
Yesterday I got my new award that stated my 16year old no longer qualified as a child. I tried ringing them but was kept on hold so left it with the intention of trying today. This morning I logged into my bank and found both a WTC and CTC payment of the amount nearer to what I should be getting with the 16 yr old included (this is an extra payment I assume as I get paid on a Thurs).
Hopefully this is now correct I will get a new award notice as others have said.
