I rang tax credits and child benefit on 22 August to advise them that DD had enrolled at college. Received normal CB payment on Monday and random amount £3.16!) from CTC, so I'm hoping that my changes have gone through. No sign of a new awards notice though so I'm just spending as little as possible and keeping my fingers crossed.0

Why do the staff openly lie when we contact them?
We too had the same, no changes in circumstances other than our 16 year old autistic sone leaving school and going straight into full time college, therefore, effectively no change at all.
When we got the renewal pack, our child tax credits dropped by £600 for this very reason, I phoned up, they said it would be reset for the beginning of September and our payments would be made back up and any short fall also included from the low payment we got at the start of September.
I finally got through to a human being this morning to find out what our next payment will be!!!
Turns out we are still around £200 down on previous payments and so the payment where we only got around £700 will not be made up at all either???
Now we're confused, if our circumstances have not changed, why are we losing so much?
Our eldest, now 22 and no longer on the claim anyway, well, we never had any such issues when he finished school and went straight into college, the payemnts literally continued, but we were under a labour governemnt then and yet the tories say labour screwed everything up, so when we here Cameron stating they are reducing the so called deficit, now you know one of their sneaky little ways in which they work.0

You need to look at the annual amount, they may have overpaid you slightly earlier in the year for whatever reason (eg recalculating on the renewal).
Nope, no overpayment as contacted them to explain it properly. Apparently it's to do with the day it falls on? Well that payment i can wave bye bye to. The advisor told me he was confused too and that most people he dealt with that day have had a back payment but not me! Nothing had changed apart from the college. He didn't have any other explanation but this. All he could tell me was that the system was 100% accurate and to go through with a fine tooth comb when i receive the renewal. I thought it was an overpayment but there's no explanation on the system at all as to why one week has completely disappeared.0

I'm in the same boat... payments stopped in 1st Sept with no warning despite me giving them plenty of notice that son was off to college. After an expensive MOT my funds are lower than usual. Had I known in advance that this would happen I would have budgeted better throughout the year. Hope they start paying out soon as I have precisely £15.45 until 20th  Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0  Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0

I receive my tax credits weekly at the Post Office. After last week's much reduced amount, today I have received my recalculated amount.0

Just a quick update - I managed to get through finally to a person yesterday (Weds) and spoke to a lovely really helpful guy. He told me that they had recalculated my amount, told me how much it would be and that the money missing from Fridays had already been put in my PO account on Monday. He also added the new notification would be with me soon.
He sounded so grateful when I said thank you I thought he was going to burst into tears!! When I said I was sure he was getting enough stick on the phone from stressed people so he deserved a big thanks his actual words were " You don't know how much that means - thank you so much" and put the phone down!!! I felt so sorry for him so would just like to add if you do speak to a person please remember they are just doing their job as best as they can and its not their fault the system is screwed. I know its hard when there's no money and the wolf is knocking at the door but it achieves nothing by shooting the messenger. Who knows? They may actually be in a worse position personally than you
Now to try and find out when we'll get a decision on my hubby's PIP claim, still that's only been going on since November last year so not holding my breath!0

After getting a shock when I rang them yesterday (they had stopped everything as from Monday coming), I rang again this morning and it has finally been sorted out and payments will resume as normal from next week.
Mine had to be escalated yesterday to someone higher as apparently someone had made a major mess up on the claim (in all the kerfuffle of getting it updated, middle son had ceased to exist - he is NOT the 16 year old and the system was being slow updating youngest, the 16 year old) but thankfully, they sorted it all out within 24 hours...phew! I did get a little stressy yesterday when talking to them but didn't shout or get angry, more like cry and became a shameful wimp and I did apologise for subjecting them to a wimpy, wailing woman.
I too was extremely grateful when I got the news today and told them so, I was so happy and gushing in thanks that she was happy, you could almost hear the smile through the phone. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
