    Hiya

    Thanks for info :D

I can't apply in branch, cos i've already applied online so they have done the search already..... am on the phone to complaints dept now! They seem to have 'magically' found my application and ringing through for update as I type.......

Maybe this explains the delay and lack of data showing, like you say if they are busy....

Good to hear that they found your application!

You will get the account opened soon, and the stuff will arrive within 3-5 days.

I got an account at Barclays too, and applied in branch. I got everything this week after opening (took 2 days to recieve PIN and telephone banking, took 3 days for card and online banking username/membership number). All I need to wait for is the online banking password, which I hope will come either today or over the weekend. You should have the same time span to recieve those things.

Hopefully applying for other non-credit products are quicker (e.g. savings) through online banking, as there is no cedit involved, and hopefully account details are generated without the need to go in branch with ID. As or credit related products, I would go to branch, so they could sort it out straight away on a day, where the decision is made instantly.

    Hiya

LOL, the application they found was my barclaycard one dated 25th August. No record of a bank account made on 30/08. LOL

They told me to wait, I asked 'why, if you have it then you'll see it on your system' and she told me that she couldn't so I argued about loss of data and where my data went - this confused her so time to write in now and formally demand an explanation.

Where did my secure application with all that data go to - that's what i'm bothered about?

As for banking with them, i'd never leave HSBC anyway but defoo wouldn't use Barclays now. What am I to do? I applied, have the email, but the bank don't know a thing about it?

    Ermmmm, thats beat me! :confused::confused:

Don't know where the secure application went, as I didn't apply for mine online.

I would suggest you go into branch and open it asap. I assume you haven't been credit checked yet. If yes, I hope another search won't damage your credit score.

As for ID, bring a UK driving license or passport. No need to bring seperate proof of address. Both of those documents counts as proof of name and address.

I assume you don't need credit facilities like an overdraft.

Prepare for a 10-20 minute waiting depending on how busy the staff is. It was worth waiting for in my opinion. Afer providing ID an copying it to the system, they will ask you about how much you spend for food, entertainment, petrol, and the like. Also, ask some more personal questions like your martial status (single, married, divorced, etc...), any children, do you have a car, etc... It's just a customer profiling. I don't think it will affect the account openeing at all.

I think they prefer a UK passport than a drivers license for some reason. The advisor asked what ID I had on me (both passport and drivers license). They took the passport instead.

If you get declined for some reason, it will default to a Cash Card account. It is similar to the Barclays Bank Account.

Hope everything goes well. Tell us how it went.

    Hiya

Thanks for this - I currently bank with HSBC and have full accounts plus overdrafts. I won't be going anywhere near Barclays. I'm now writing in demanding they find my application and if they do not I will seek guidance from the ICO and other governing bodies about seeking compo for one of the biggest DPA breaches going - loss of personal data.

I would never bank with them, I only applied for something to do to see what they would say! But now i'm going to just screw them for being typically !!!!!! lol :rotfl::rotfl:

p.s. I applied online. I therefore need not go into any branch.... if they insist this i'll have them for mis advertising (*apply online and get a decision in seconds)..... My local Barclays is 27miles away!

I rarely here data been lost when sent online. It's just like e-mail, it rarely gets lost, when you send it to that particular person.

Could I ask why are you applying just to see what they say, instead of wanting the account? :o You actually could ruin your credit score...

I hope they find your application eventually.
  • Can you ring the 0500 number again and when you get through to a person ask them which department they are in. That number, I think, is going through to Telephone Banking at the minute and they can only access details for existing customers. If it is Telephone Banking, ask them to put you through to the 'New to Bank' team - it's on their list of contact numbers.

Thanks - I even rung the complaints dept number hoping they would have a 'master system' or something but she said similar, only seen the barclaycard application....

Never mind, will just leave it as a 'could have been.....'

  • It may turn up yet, last May i was made redundant, and started to claim JSA in June for my mortgage protection to kick in. I decided to open a new account for the benefits payments and decided to give Barclays a try. After hearing nothing after a couple of weeks I forgot about it, only for a welcome pack to drop through my letterbox in October!
