Barclays Bank Accounts

I applied online last week for a Barclays Bank Account and got an email saying they would be in touch. I haven't heard anything. Does anyone know a number to ring to check my application status?
I have tried the 0500 007234 but all they say to me is that they can see me but can't access anything? I asked if there was an account showing and she said there is something set-up but you may have to go into branch with ID and told me they couldn't access anything.
Is this normal or do you think it is a decline?

I applied online on 7 Aug, it said I would receive a decision within 3 working days - I phoned after a week and was told they had been swamped with applications and it was currently taking 10 days for a response. I then received a signature form and printed application to sign and return which I did the next day. I have received my pin and online banking passcodes this morning but not my card yet - I assume I will get this in the next couple of days.
I don't think its necessarily a decline I just think they are really busy at the moment.

Ive just applied to Barclays and similar story, a week down the line heard nothing..... I just assumed i'd been declined.
I will keep waiting then, although I only applied to see if i'd get knocked back or not! I am happy with HSBC but thought i'd test the water with Barclays....2010 - year of the troll

So did you get a full account or basic? Basic accounts have to be opened in branch right? That's what bothers me, travelling 30 odd miles each way for a basic account!
Did you get a letter telling you to go in branch?
Was the account actually opened or do they reapply in branch? Cos the OP said that TB couldn;t access anything and it seems weird that branch and TB have different systems?

Good Luck with barclays, just transfered back to Lloyds after only 3 months with them, applied online and it all went downhill from there!!!
Had issues from day 1, even when approved for stuff the staff were incompetent at getting anything sorted out, the last straw was a payment being return unpaid for 'No Instruction' even though Barclays had paid it the month before, they claimed the reference had changed, it hadn't! Got £80 compo, but to be honest it cost me far more in time sorting it out, even added up the time on the phone.......840 minutes!
NEVER NEVER AGAIN!These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

Update - thats now 3 weeks and still not a peep! I ring barclays who say they cannot locate me on their system and to go to branch with ID - I asked 'if you can't see me then the branch won't either, right?' - she told me the banks use a different system!
Ermm, time to forget Barclays me thinks.....2010 - year of the troll

Next time apply for products in branch. It's quicker, as ID and other details can be taken down, and account details are ready on the day. The decision will be instant too.
Since they can't locate you on their system, I think they haven't looked at your application yet. You should go to branch to open the account.
Don't forget about Barclays just yet!0 -

I can't apply in branch, cos i've already applied online so they have done the search already..... am on the phone to complaints dept now! They seem to have 'magically' found my application and ringing through for update as I type....... :eek:
Maybe this explains the delay and lack of data showing, like you say if they are busy....2010 - year of the troll
