Disabled Parking Rant!!!!!

A broken leg, as far as I'm concerned doesn't give you the right to park in a disabled bay. I've been using a wheelchair for nearly 2 years now, and for the first 11 months of that, before I applied for DLA (wasn't well enough to do the forms, and then had appeal etc) I didn't have a BB- our council won't issue them unless you have HRM or other automatic qualifying criteria.
In the time I didn't have a BB we NEVER parked in a disabled space, it meant we couldn't go into the town centre, as it wasn't safe to dump me and wheelchair down in the middle of the multi-storey car park whilst dad parked the car, I don't have the arm strength to self propel unless on very smooth shiny floors, and so had some maniac come fast down there things could have gone very wrong. I know it's not illegal, but it's still something that comes down to your conscience, BB are issued to people with a PERMANENT disability, not a leg that'll heal in 6 weeks, and BB holders only should park in disabled spaces.0 -
My local Mr T's has some bays that are close to the store and another six bays that are on the other side of the carpark down a ramp about three hundred yards away from the shop!! can't quite see the point of these.0

I'm assuming they're wide bays. Just a theory.

If you re read the post (which you critiscised) you might see :rotfl:Most know there is no penalty for abusing the system
Could you point me in the direction of my criticism please.
And in that post you said "claiming he had every right to use one" which I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, that you were disputing, as he did indeed have that legal right.
In my response to that post I did not mention penalties at all.
Only those displaying a blue badge have the right to park in a disabled bay :A You seem unable or unwilling to graps that simple fact. Just because the cheats can get away with it, does not make it right "A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

They have no more legal right to park there than anyone else.
That is a fact which you seem to struggle with for some reason.
Those without blue badges who do park there, while not contravening any law, have presumably got consciences that do not trouble them.
Not aware of anyone having said it is "right" for people to park there without displaying a blue badge.
Could you please point out my criticism of your earlier post please.0 -
Juliescot, Missile, please stop.
to me it looks like you 2 are just bickering between yourselves over this.. I hope i am wrong..............
Someone pointed out about times to go shopping.. saturdays being very busy, monday morning not busy..
For me it's not as easy as going at a less busy time, i have to rely on the OH at the moment until i can get a ramp to get out of my home, and a mobility car to get me there..
I can only go when OH can take me, or wait until after school when my son can come with me to the local tesco's metro, which in all honesty i don't mind doing.. but i can only get a few things, and they charge a lot more than the supermarkets because of their prime location for lunch time shoppersLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -

Okay - stopped0 -
I think juliescot was pointing out the legal aspect - shop car parks tend to be on private property ie. owned by the store. now - they can divide up the car park however they like - BUT they have no legal right to do so! therefore disabled bays are like serving suggestions - they cannot enforce it. but - as its their land they can ask you to leave!0

Yes tandraig ur right they can.......Not sure where I wrote this, but my local tescos ended up phoning police. And they have the right (as the owners of the land) to remove a vehicle which is causing an obstruction - FACT saw it with my own eyes.....so hope they do this a bit more n see the lazy people get a !!!! load thinner lolYes im disabled....yes I can do things you cant....but you can do things I cant so were equal!0
