Is anyone putting money behind the bar??

When I got married we got £1000 from my parents and put it straight behind the bar and it lasted most of the night, (was over 13 years ago now though). If I invite people to my wedding then why should they pay stupid hotel prices because I want a stupidly expensive hotel? Your celebration, you pay. Simple. If you can't afford it don't do it.
Errrr, that's a bit rich isn't it. Easy for you to say when you didn't even pay for the drinks! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Oh I can see them now!! Little box needed ticking. Thanks
Thought I was being original with the tinkerbell one as hadn't seen it anywhere else :rotfl::rotfl: "I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful."

The first free bar I came accross was my dutch cousins wedding in Holland, she was horrified that I was gobsmacked because its normal over there to have a free bar at a wedding.
It does appear to be cultural.0 -

We could have easily spent it on the honeymoon or put it towards a better car etc. When it given to us as a gift it was OUR money. We chose to let our GUESTS drink on us at OUR wedding. Like I said, it's not rocket science

Edit options in user CP, thread display options. Glad I'm not the only one who missed that one!

I wouldn't expect a free bar these days, however, I went to my half sisters wedding last Saturday and was suprised to find that my very frugal step mother had put £2000 behind the bar for the 80 guests.
On reflection though I realised she could afford it, it was just a drop in the ocean after all she inherited from my father. [STRIKE]She[/STRIKE] he also paid for the happy couple to honeymoon in Kenya for 2 weeks and seems offended that I don't bother to visit too often.
I learnt a lot from my father - I go out of my way to treat all my children fairly and equally.
It's your wedding, enjoy your day and don't let MIL spoil it for youDoing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -
