urgh this sort of thing really annoys me!
(espeacially cus it involves mil2b, and mine drives me mad lol)
there is absolutely no need to do a free bar, you are paying for enough as it is, and no one nowadays expects it at all
stick with what you have chosen, and tell her if it bothers her that much she is more than welcome to pay for it
try not to let it get to you, you are in the right not her
hugsMarried on 5th March 2010still lurking on the wedding board tho :rotfl:0 -
i always expect to pay for drinks at a wedding!
agree with other poster - if your MIL is that bothered...let her pay for it!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
we wont be putting money behind the bar! we are going to take some wine for corkage and if theres any left over from the toasts, then the guests will get lucky!Mummy to

Ah, thanks guys. I feel a whole lot better reading all your posts.
I've been so upset over it.....and my mum and dad were mortified!! They feel like they've let us down cos THEY haven't put money behind the bar and my poor old mum says that she doesn't want his family frowning on her for not doing it.
My mum had already said to me that her and dad fully intended to walk around with a few hundred pound each and buy all the evening guests a drink and now she's been made to feel that that's not good enough.
I feel disgusted that the way my MIL2B has affected our wedding and most of all that my parents are now upset and feeling inadequate ( when they've already contributed so much....they've paid loads of out deposits for us already...I'm talking 100's of pounds...which we were so grateful for as we didn't expect anything from either side. )0 -
I forgot to say I've told my mum that under NO circumstances will I let her and dad put any money behind the bar!! It's the principle now!
P.s. xJayJayx...where are you getting married?0 -
I would guess that you have got the gist now but I would tell your MIL to get rooted. I cannot believe the cheek of some people. Free bars just dont happen anymore at wedding.
Sounds to me she doesnt want to pay for drinks herself tight fisted witch. Thatll learn 'erOne day some company will do what they say they will do and charge a fair charge.:T
Not doing the opposite of that which they promise and charge you a fortune for the privileged.
Or maybe not:mad:0 -
Whenever I [STRIKE]get dragged[/STRIKE] go to a wedding. I say "At least it's a free feed" I don't say "At least it's free booze". I expect to buy my own drinks......0

I think your mil2b is a bit much!! We aren't putting money behind the bar because we can't afford it. TBH even if we could afford it, I probably wouldn't either they are getting food, mulled wine after the ceremony and a good night hopefully!!

Sounds like I'm the odd one out, there's no bar at our venue, so no choice other than to provide drinks all day.,___,

I have never been to a wedding that has had a free bar, tbh never even heard of it.

Glad your sticking to your guns, it's YOUR wedding day, your MIL has had hers.
I hate it when people try to tell you how to run your life and take over.
Good Luck with the wedding hope it's great:j0
