If you feel it's better to get married in secret then thats what you should have. Don't have a big bash if you don't want to.

  • Have had a wonderful and most perfect day:beer: have just typed up all my wonderful memories of the day so I dont forget at all, came home at teatime and had to have a sleep but tried to fight it in case I forgot anything!

The nerves went as soon as we were married (was a nervous wreck right up until then) and I cried all through the vows, weather has been boiling hot too and have some brilliant photos, am soooooooooo happy now!:D
  • Congratulations, zztopgirl :)
  • zztopgirl, congrats to you and new hubby. I'm glad you had a great day, did you get your witness sorted? Well it's all over now, though I've now got the hassle of getting my name changed on everything  - I'm not too sure where to start!

Our friend who was the witness dragged one of his friends along (dh reckoned he was a treehugger lol) but he was really lovely and genuine, couldnt have picked a nicer person:T

Have the headache of changing my name next week, but am still waiting to tell my parents who are in Spain at the moment:eek: and also my eldest dd, have told my youngest dd today:D and my new mil is really happy for us.
  • Hi everyone. I'm a bit late joining the fun here, sorry. I found this thread when I was actually researching getting married in secret.

Our plan is to get married in secret but we still want to hold a 'big day' too. So effectively we'd have our marriage before our wedding. Our reasons for doing this are complex but boil down to already having booked several things for a planned date and suddenly finding ourselves needing to be married before that, mostly from a financial and employment POV. It's very paperwork/redtape. I'm not pregnant or anything like that.

But I was wondering... Has anyone ever 'faked' a wedding day? Can we have our big day without anyone knowing that we're really already married? This isn't about hiding anything really, everyone knows we're getting married, we'd just rather they didn't know we'd already done it. Don't want our family to feel left out & also having a religious ceremony is important to me too.

So... anyone 'got married' who was secretly already married?

    Hi FlamingSilk!

Years ago some friends of mine got married at the registery office earlier in the day and then went on to exchange their own wedding vows in a special ceremony.
Perhaps you could tell a little white lie and say that you got married quietly that morning and then do your own ceremony/blessing for everyone else to attend?
Good luck and enjoy your day!

Aw ladies, thanks for this thread and congrats to the secret brides! I'd love to get married in secret. My dad and mum just don't get on at all. They have been forced together for my sister's graduation 2 years ago and mine in 2002, but I didn't go to my doc graduation as they can't stand to be in the same room together. My dad pretty much told me to run away to get married as he wouldn't want 'a scene'. My mum would probably end up getting wrecked and shouting at him.

I love these ideas ladies- thank you all! I think three meals when I get back might cover it- his family (ooop north), my mum and family then my dad and his missus (all darn south), then a big knees up for our mates ;)
