    Hello folks.

Well, I survived! Not an experience I wish to repeat, but I got through what seemed a v-e-r-y l-o-n-g evening without a panic attack.

We ended up going by taxi, as one of Mr LW's friends wanted to share a cab with us, but I still only had ginger beer - less risk of me talking Martian as the evening went on!:rotfl:

I kept my conversation to the subject of animals, so that I'd be talking about a familiar subject, and luckily everyone seemed to have pets of some sort, so that was OK.

LOL we suspect the landlord forgot he was supposed to do a buffet, as when Mr LW asked the barmaid about food, all of a sudden there was a mad flurry of activity, and one of the regulars was seconded to mind the bar while the barmaid went to assist in the kitchen!:rotfl: It was good when it arrived, though, and a wee choccy birthday cake with a candle on it.:o

I did my usual trick with buffets, of getting Mr LW to load a plate for me; when you use two sticks in places the wheelchair won't go, balancing a plate as well is pretty much impossible.:D

Anyway, he said he really enjoyed himself; he certainly looked to be doing so, too.:rotfl: So mission accomplished!

I'm extremely tired today, but it's OK, there aren't any tasks requiring my immediate attention (or at least nothing that will cause major problems if left til tomorrow).:o

Thank you all for the fantastic support - it made it much, much easier for me. A special thank you to Wannabe Sybil for the lovely PM.:o

Congrats and Well done LoneWolf, I hope it's the first of many for you - you felt the fear but did it anyway.

Be brave and build on it.:A

Don't let fear keep you from getting out and about - there is always someone more fat / more spotty / with worse clothes / less money / smellier / worse hair / the list goes on.... than the person who is worrying what other folk think - trust me on this one.;) I spent far too long believing my mother when she said people would laugh if I went out a certain way - it's rubbish, these days I'm myself, and no-one has ever laughed at me!!

Of course planning things helps, and the more you do it the more natural it becomes. You've taken the first step, or the first roll of your wheels, if it's OK for me to say that. Don't put the brakes on now!:T Thinking back, remind yourself that people were interested in what you had to say, and talked back about their own pets. MAybe some of them were glad that you opened up a conversation they could join in.... lots of people get worried over what to talk about, but pets, families, Christmas shopping and holidays are things that most people do/have.

    Good on you!!:D
