Hugs Lula..sorry that you feel a little overwhelmed at the moment.Had to laugh(sorry) at madam impersonating you...she must be really insecure to do that.
Hope you're feeling a bit better today xx0 -
Lula - I think if you don't want those things (buying your own home, high flying career etc) then you don't have to have them or aim towards getting them.
From things you've posted on here previously I would suggest goals like:
1) Enough savings to have a splurge on shoes, fabby handbag etc
2) Enough savings to own a boat / go on boating holidays etc
3) A job which is interesting but also not one of those that takes over your life completely and gives you enough flexibility for your other commitments.....
I have to be honest and a lot of these are also my goals (not specifically the boat one but if you change that one to enough money to go on holiday regularly that is mine!)
there is nothing wrong with having goals that only you would choose or that are different to other people.
In fact there is nothing wrong with having no goals for a while so that you can have a think about things.
Anyway my goals change a lot as I think of new things to do (for a while I was obsessed with the idea of beekeeping.....) and my priorities change. I'm now quite obsessed with interiors and homewares and doing stuff with my flat which has taken over from my clothes shopping habit....
You seemed to have managed really well at work-job despite all the annoyances.
I'm highly amused at the Lula-Clone in the office. What a shame! Did anyone else notice this transformation??
I wore a skirt and heels to work on Wednesday as I had a job interview and it was a mini-homage (not cloning) for my boss who was leaving (she always wears lovely shoes and smart skirts) which caused much comment in the office as I'm normally jeans / trainers combo. I normally find anything new about your appearance brings out lots of comments!!I've got my own flat :j:j
Now I have to pay the bills
And feed my interiors addiction0 -
Hi Lula
Sorry you are feeling a bit overwhelmed, as you know I have been there the last few weeks - the only thing I can say is that you do come out the other side, as I am starting to
And fab post from makeup :ASometimes it's hard to walk in a single woman's shoes - that's why we need really special ones!Total debt @ Oct 2008: £29,226.42 Credit Card- £[STRIKE]7493.56[/STRIKE] - £7243.56Weightloss : 0/34lbs0 -
makeup - the wonderful voice of calm & reason as ever :A
thank you lovely lady, especially the bits about goals changing regularly & no goals at all for a while being fine. Interestingly, I too had a thing about beekeeping for a while ... visions of Lula brand honey being sold from my garden shed :rotfl:
Thanks for the lovely posts & apologies for having a 'birrova' wobblyI really dont handle stress well at all; or rather I dont recognise that I am stressed so it's manifestations always takes me by surprise.
Moo - thanks for the links - I'd already considered quite a few of those places (not the pole dancing) but had no idea that there are caves in Reigate, tho I have to say, they dont look that exciting :rotfl:.
DD has had a pyjama day - only changing after her bath this evening & I've spent the day wandering about & getting reacquainted with my home & garden. I did a bit of washing, a bit of tidying, a bit of ironing & a lot of mooching about & thinking.
Didnt leave the premises & consequently didnt spend any money
Havent yet started on the new budget but I'm thinking very hard about how to reorganise my finances so I can quit home-job ASAP while still managing to pay off debt ASAP.
I do feel a bit trapped in a catch-22 situation - so many things I need to do for my health (mental & physical) but cant/wont due to debts/time restraints.
I also recognise that I'm not performing my best at work-job due to not wanting to throw my all at it as I know I have to do home-job & am too chicken to just give that up.
Something has to give ... just not quite sure yet, what the 'thing' is .
I'm off to town tomorrow to use up my Boots points vouchers, buy some sugar soap for the bathorom walls & have a rummage in TKMaxx for some new fabby homewares.
night night

Hi Lula..it'sso hard making deciscions when in debt but at the end of the day your health is most important.Hope you can come up with the right choice for you.0

Lula - sorry to hear that you're under the weather, you have to admit that it was funny Goblin turning up as a Lula clone, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery (or words to that effect).
I had a bit of an adventure in the week - I had to conduct a meeting so I dolled myself up and put heels on (the heels were a big mistake because I haven't worn this particular pair of shoes since 2003 and haven't worn heels for over 12 months:eek:), well I was seen wincing if I had to walk anywhere and admit that as soon as I was able to too I removed them and put my crocs on.
Am a bit busy, still have study to do but have been earning some much needed money and I have been asked to organise some more courses for another client. I need to ebay a load of wedding stuff to get rid of it - even if it sells for 99p its gone and out of my hair.
Had to laugh the other day, I went to a meeting and my satnav on my mobile tried sending me back to Honiton instead of sending me home..I got home and it was still telling me to head towards the M5:rotfl: I am still getting used to this new phone..at least Virgin gave me some money for the inconvenience of being without for over a week.
Today, I have been sorting out papers and seeing what can be chucked, recycled and what can go to the charity shops (they like carrier bags). Whilst visiting the paper recycling bin downstairs my beady eyes alighted on a wooden frame - its a simple pine frame with a hanging cord on it and I decided that it may come in useful, I am thinking of getting a piece of canvas and stretching it over and daubing it with paint or something else - I haven't quite decided.0 -
Hello lovelies,
thanks Shoe Gal & Taxi for your encouragement; half of my problem about not knowing which way to turn is due to not having enough head-space to actually think things through, or time to jot down thoughts & ideas & then actually formulate them into a realistic & workable budget.
The other half of the problem is trying to operate from the most ridiculous budgets ever. I started one this morning, wrote down every single possible expense & then panicked when I realised I had got to £1400 worth of outgoings before even making a minimum payment on the CCs .
Sheer fantasy I can assure you. Only in a parallel universe do I have enough income to pay off my debts by the end of the year & have £50 a month for entertainment, £50 a month for clothes & shoes, £100 towards a holiday & another £30 for emergencies/savings on top of the £50 a month for DDs pocket money, clubs & hobbies & that doesnt include the PGL trip payments either, + another £70 for holiday childcare :rotfl:.
No wonder I'm struggling to 'locate' the £400 I want to pay off the CCs.
I am now working towards a 30 week plan to clear the debts. To clear it by the end of the year is now totally impossible. To clear it by the last week in March is IMPERATIVE. I have to start paying Council Tax again on 1st April, the 0% deal runs out on April 4th, & I simply cannot go through another summer of working at home job.
I am working out a 30 week budget; this will start in the first full week of September. This is the week I start back at both jobs & DD goes back to school.
I have the next 2 weeks to gather together all the info to get this plan working & organise myself & my finances to ensure this runs smoothly.
I need to stop thinking about this as 'personal' & start treating it as a business project. I need this to run effectively alongside my work-job as that is going to be very heavy going when I get back. There are already 2 simultaneous projects about to start, with the real possiblity of a 3rd. I need to have the finances running smoothly so I can cope with work-job. I need to be calm, efficient & on the ball so that I am a valued member of the business & can then feel confident of my position within the company to enable me to let go of home-job once it has served it's purpose.
I need to think of home-job as purely a business necessity to enable me to become debt free & then let it go. I am still emotionally dependent on it, as when I was made redundant & my relationship broke down, it was the only thing between me & the DDs becoming destitute & homeless. I admit that I am scared of letting it go. On the other hand; until I do let it go I cannot commit to working full time at work-job. I may still choose not to when DD goes to high School, but by clinging to home-job I am ensuring that I cant take it on fully.
I did say I recognise that I have commitment issues.
I'm off to grab a Gordon & will then return with my spending confessions ...0 -
looks like you've had a long hard think about everything and will be able to get your 30 weekplan to work0

Hello Horace, good to have you back here & I'm really pleased to hear that your buinsess is earning money. I think you might want to stick to map reading in future
Alrighty, now that I've sown the seeds of my 30 week plan & have a lovely Gordon to keep me company, I can confess all.
Pottered about at home this morning; had a lazy bath then worked on the riduculous budget :rotfl: until the realisation of what I would have to do during the next 7 months sent me running off to town to spend some money quick.
First stop the diy store to by some sugar soap = £ 1.99
Pet store for new collar & anti flea treatment = £ 7.57
Earrings for me & necklace for DD in sale = £14.
Skincare & makeup for me = £29.50
Books for DD = £ 9.99
Parking = £ 2.20
Waitrose = £32.79
Hmmmm, the very attentive among you may realise that I have now exceeded my grocery budget. No change there then.
I got home, unloaded the shopping by the house & then did my speedy reverse up the road to the garage, hopped out to open it up & it made a horrible noise & stopped about a foot from the top. Wont go up, wont go down. I got the car in, but only by wrapping it in a grass skirt & telling her she was limbo dancer in her previous life ( as opposed to the can of dog food & roof tiles she'll be in her next life :shhh:).
Bluddy annoying as it means I cant close it when we go out ... dreading it being full of chaikeys rubbish when we get back .
Gosh I love not working :j. Tomorrow I'll be having another lazy lie in, followed by a spot of chores, then go to collect DD1, & visit other rellies. All without the stress of being on a time limit.
Will also do some more work on an earth-based budget
xx0
