Just rang up A&L to see what the hell is going on as I STILL hadn't heard about the CC. They told me I had been declined. That's not good - that will look bad on my otherwise good credit file, and there's no way I dare apply for another CC in the near future as a result of that. Also, their service has been utterly rubbish. I can guarantee that I will be with them for the next 3 month and not a day longer. Come back, HSBC: (nearly) all is forgiven!

Pah, pants and pooh. Things are not looking rosy, financially. :(

hi pickle!xx Cheer up! I have been declined also its because they have been warned of responsible lending by fsa as people have sued who cant pay back so they are ultra weary ,also before credit crunch if you have a ok credit rating it prob balances more on fair now!xx

Thanks BtD: I'm cheered up now - I think it was hangover-induced grumpiness. Am currently eating the BEST strawberry cheesecake made my aforementioned aunty who also made some scrumptious bread yesterday. She can stay. I'll lock her in my bedroom and only let her out as far as the kitchen to cook. :D

I might have her five big sons knocking down the door after a week, though...;)

Without meaning to sound like a git, I did try and warn you off A&L! :(

Don't feel down about failing to get the CC, I'm sure you'll come up with something as a resourceful Pickle. My GF got turned down for a Barclaycard a few months ago and was also gutted. Put into context, she earns £25k, has never had a late payment or blemish on her credit history in 25 years and better meets the affordability criteria for credit than most people I know (including her parents!)

Has your aunt made any more treats we're yet to hear of? I started an 11 day work holiday this evening - prepare to hear about lots of crazy edinburgher cookery schemes in the next few days ;)

You don't have to move over to A+L even though you've got the papers. It sounds like you'll be better off staying with your old bank.
I wouldn't worry about not getting the CC.I also have never missed a payment, earn decent money and overpay by load yet have been turned down for credit a couple of times recently. It's annoying but they have really tightened up.
Your Aunty sounds great..can't blame you wanting to lock her in your room ..lol

I've been hearing about quite a lot of people have had problems getting new CCs. It's amazing how there is no legislation against current lenders silently upping their limits, though. ;)

Aunty (and mum!), have now gone to stay at a hotel for the weekend leaving Pickle home alone (except for ickle brother who is in/out constantly). Yippee! :j Am not working this weekend so have only nail course tomorrow to worry about (plus house cleaning, room tidying and job applications). They will be back on Monday and aunty will be going back home on Monday evening.

Had a hell of a day at work and am glad it's over. Am quite smug about the amount I managed to get done since I got home, though: shower taken and hair washed, two lots of washing done and one dried in dryer, uniform ironed for the morning, food made and eaten, bedding changed and many dry clothes found homes. Am about to drink wine and watch the first new episode of QI for weeks. :D Then bed and an early rise to straighten hair, pluck eyebrows, pack for college etc. I feel like a hamster on a wheel! ;)

*Pokes back* Hey you, I was thinking about you the other day. I guess now that you are the other side of 0 you don't fill in your diary so often so I don't see you round so much. Anything new or exciting going on in Lee land?

Aww ! It's nice to be thought about. :D I think people at work thought I'd finally gone round the bend when I literally (at the time I posted that message) shouted "Pickle!" out loud when I saw your thread appear in the "New Posts" list :D Got some very odd looks indeed.

I'm around quite a lot, just not so much in diaryland these days. Naughty I know but I feel a little 'invaderish' when I come here now. Like I don't belong. An outcast!

Not a great deal is new in LalaLee Land. I may be the other side of the zero, but nothing much has really changed in a financial sense. I'm still living frugal, in an attempt to get enough money saved up to move out of my parents' place by next year*. Work is throwing overtime out like confetti, which is helping, but it just means I spend the majority of my life at work or travelling there and back.

Not ideal from a "life" point of view, but short term pain, long term gain, I guess!

    * I could move out now, but courtesy of where I've been previously, I want an £8-10k emergency fund saved up first, and about the same in a 'new house setup' fund, to cover furniture, electricals, white goods, home cinema, and so forth. I'm not putting another bean on long-term credit again beyond a mortgage when the time comes.

I've decided to rent next year when I move, and then hack away at saving a big deposit. I can't stay at home for more than another 12 months as I will literally go insane. :(

How about you??? I see you've had a few ups and downs.

Aggghhh I feel really guilty after saying how good a&l have been for me and OH, sorry things didn't work out well.:o

To put things into perspective though, when me and hubby we buying our first house halifax were providing the mortgage and when it was all going through we decided to apply for a joint account to pay all the joint bills out of, and would you believe it they turned us down because we had not got enough of a record of handling debt because we had never been in any. How stupid they were willing to lend us more than £100,000 but wouldn't let us have a joint account.
Maybe its that in your case you haven't got a bad credit rating its because you haven't been in enough debt to show that you can handle debt if you know what I mean.

From now on their name will never darken the doorstep of your forum, you'll get your revenge when you take your cashback money and run in a couple of months, let no bank cross pickle and get away with it
