I am fed up with doing all of the cleaning cooking and washing...

Options
I live with my OH and lodger and am so fed up that after arguments with OH i have put this up in the kitchen:
I AM FED UP...
OF FEELING LIKE I HAVE TO CLEAN UP AFTER EVERYONE
Toaster – I use this very rarely – surely it would take less than 5 minutes to unplug and ‘de-crumb’ the toaster if you have used it 3 times in a week? (then maybe give it a quick wipe over)
Dirty cutlery in the sink – sometimes there is more than can be fitted into the dishwasher basket – how does this happen???
Very rarely does anyone clear and CLEAN the draining board other than me – WHY?
Oven and hob – I know I am not a Saint with this but how many times has anyone else cleaned the oven??
I am not the only person that uses the sink, toilet, shower / bath...
I do not regularly walk wet feet in to the kitchen – yet it is ALWAYS me that sweeps and mops.
I de-scale the kettle, clean the toaster, microwave, oven, hob, bathroom, front room, stairs, wash bath mats / shower curtain, wash curtains and doormats, clean filters in washing machine / dishwasher, scrub kitchen cabinets and kick boards, wash out kitchen/ bathroom bin, hoover everywhere, clean the windows and doors inside and out, dust, clean worktops/ defrost fridges and freezers, clean out the drains when they are NASTY, remember the bins and recycling AND BUY ALL OF THE CLEANING PRODUCTS......
IS IT ANY WONDER I WANT TO GIVE IT ALL UP AND LIVE BACK AT MUMS??

Having lived in many a house share - you can have arguments, you can get wound up, you can start point systems and rotas but if people don't care you can't force your standards (even though they are perfectly reasonable) upon them.... you either get like minded housemates or you start throwing money at it and get everyone to pay their share:
    a dishwasher
    a cleaner
bookcases with doors so no dusting
cleaning blocks in the toilets to keep limescale/pongs/stains at bay
    shower spray
    plenty of effective chemicals
a shower screen or regular new curtains
    a really expensive dyson
    self defrosting fridge
a toaster with a crumb tray or a disappearing toaster

a new boyfriend and lodger would of course be cheaper....

spare washing up bowls help - clear stuff out of the sink and move the offenders items on the side rather than wash them up

One of my ex's lived with his brother who wouldnt do a thing round the house, in the end he got so fed up of it, that if his brother left dishes, dirty washing or mess he would pick it up and go and put it on his brother's bed.

His brother soon learnt his lesson that if he didnt clean up after himself he wouldnt be able to have the ladies round in case their was a bowl full of dirty dishes waiting for him on his bed.
:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T
:T fortune with those less fortunate :T
:T than themselves - you know who you are!

  • unfortunately it is my house........

my carpets, my washing machine - everything mine - just wish they would help me out rather than treating it like a hotel where you can leave your 'v' festival tent and stuff in the front room to stink the house out.

also, maybe my oh could help somewhat with cooking or washing up

anything would be good - they really don't care - just go upstairs into bedrooms and play playstation..

then i get berated at 9pm if i have not done dinner..

If you want other people to comply with your wishes, a note, however heartfelt and entirely reasonable, will not get you what you want. It'll just annoy the hell out of the other two and maybe make them worse than they are now, if that's possible.

Start looking around for a cleaner to come round and get those two blighters to pay for it between them.

I've had to tolerate this same behaviour myself and it's blinking maddening. I got a cleaner which I paid for myself, stupidly, but it was less stress than threatening to chuck them out. I wasn't going anywhere: it's my flat but you have a choice.

OR, you could move out to your own place and leave them to it, in a stye of their own making.

ETA: WHAT? It's your own place! Employ a cleaner and put their rents up!

Even though I know it will really bother you, is there any chance you can leave it and not do anything for a week? Will they get fed up and do something?

Also have you tried sitting down calmly with the lodger to discuss them doing their fair share? It's ok to rant and rave at your other half but the note might be a bit too aggressive for the lodger.

Easy then - your house - you set the rent - just went up £25 a week each - so you have 6 hours of cleaner :D

Your washing machine - only put your stuff in it - and if he pongs he's not allowed in the bed :D

Dinner - house dirty? what dinner? :D

It'll bug her for that week far more than them - their standards are calibrated at a different level

tried leaving it - no success - just made it worse for me and cat got salmonella poisoning - over £1000 at the vets - thank goodness for insurance!
