Does Ryanair check the weight of hand luggage?

Good morning,
I have a couple of books which weigh more than
10kg but they fit nicely in my hand luggage.
Officially the maximum one can have as hand
luggage on Ryanair flights is 10kg.
However, I've never been asked on my
Ryanair-flights my hand luggage to be weighed.
So far I did not care because it weighed
below 10kg anyway. But this time my hand luggage
will be above 10kg.
I'm just wondering about people's experience
on Ryanair-flights. Have you ever been denied
to take your hand baggage aboard because of
weigh rather than on the volume dimension?
Thank-you!

Yes, very often0

I've only ever been asked when I've had a carry-on suitcase rather than a shoulder bag or similar. If you can get your books into something smaller and make it look light when carrying it, you'll probably be OK.0

Not guaranteeing anything, but just to balance those saying RyanAir definitely will weigh it for revenues sake, I've never had hand luggage weighed.0

I travel a fair bit and have had my hand luggage weighed only once with Ryanair, however I have noticed that more and more airlines now ask people to pop their flight bags on the scales if they look heavy..Malaga was doing a roaring trade recently at at Thompson (I think it was Thompson and not Thomas Cook) desk next to ours. We were travelling with Air Lingus and they also stopped the people in front of us and said their hand luggage was too heavy and had to go in the hold at an excess baggage charge (they had already checked in a bag each). If other airlines have started doing it I'm sure Ryan Air won't miss the opportunity for an extra few pounds out of it as well.
You probably won't get caught, but it can't be guaranteed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. When was your last Ryanair flight ? and from what airports?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
I have flown many times to varios destinations with Ryanair and I don't recall ever having our bags weighed. We always take cabin bags only so never go to check-in where the scales are. However, we have on a few occasions been asked to put our bags in the 'gauge' to ensure they are not oversized.
I guess it's all pot luck, but we always ensure we don't exceed the 10kg, just in case they are doing spot checks.0
