Claire It is a very full price for a relatively low spec Corsa.

Your best bet would be to get a bank loan which allows you to pick and choose and barter.

If you look on Autotrader there are identical Corsas 1year old at £6300 58 reg with 2000 miles. These will still have 2 yrs of manufacturers warranty remaining.

There are much better spec 18 month old 08reg Corsas from about £5.8k - these will have 18 month warranty remaining.
It will give you some idea of the depreciation of your car.
Although you are set on a new car these will still feel brand new to you in comparison to your older vehicle.
You can then trade in sell your old car - if the worst comes to the worst a scrapyard should pick it up and give you £50.

Shes buying a brand new one for £6750 with NO deposit from the O/P at all. Why on EARTH would she buy a year old one for £6300???

The fact that year old ones retail for £6300 and 18 month old ones retail for £5800 show what a good deal a brand new one for £6750 is.

To me saving approx £5K. on price for 1 year difference says it all.

To me, it says you've no idea what you're talking about - the car has a list price of £10250, but with discount and government grants SHES ONLY PAYING £6750!!! THUS shes buying a new one for £500 not £5000 less than a new one!!

Please - if you cant take time to read the initial post OR dont comprehend it, then you'd be better not posting.

There'll be a huge glut of cheap Corsa's around very soon, all the BSM ones are being defleeted as they are being replaced by Fiat 500's, that is one big fleet.

The fleet of 14000 BSM cars is being replaced over 4 years, so that works out at 3500 a year, or 70 a week - they wont be dumped all at once. These are easily dispersed over the entire vauxhall dealer network or over car dealerships via auctions. Dont forget that these cars are already being dispersed into the car dealer network year in year out anyway with no adverse effect, as BSM have been with vauxhall for 14 years, presumably turning over a percentage of their fleet yearly.

Fiat have much more to be concerned about - a relatively niche car with high resale will suddenly be diluted with extra 500's dumped onto the market.

Fiat themselves have made the deal, not so daft of them as many learners end up buying the type of car they learn in.

The 500 is a fashion car like the vastly overpriced Mini, they've captured that fickle market for the moment till the next fad comes along.

I guess its a calculated risk for them. It will be interesting to see if it pays off or if the 500 goes the way of all other fiats and suffers heavy depreciation.

Interestingly, BSM are able to offer a £500 discount on a new Fiat 500 to its customers now, so as you say, Fiat may be hoping for a strong take up to offset the amount of low spec 500's that will be introduced to the market as BSM starts to dispose of its fleet in the future.

    Hey Guys

Right I went in to Lookers Vauxhall and took in the advert in the original post..They said this is a real offer but only available on red and white models.

They offered me the active for £1000 extra, comes with metallic paint and air con, alloy wheels, its looks lovely :)

The finance for this he offered me was £180x 60 (no deposit) per month incl paint and fabric warrantly, alloy repair and loss warranty (basically apparently this helps with depreciation and they offer to buy it back from you at a certain price, but Im a bit confused by this) or £162 without all that

The old sprat to catch a mackeral trick, tempt people in with what looks like a good offer, then try to flog the next model up, for a grand more + a load of extra's that are not required.

Your call, but I would look elsewhere.

Or buy the standard car deal thats on offer as advertised and not buy in to the (already predicted) obvious sales tactic?

Indeed, but I would not be at all surprised if they don't actually have any of the " standard " models available, I hope I am wrong. ;)

On a differesnt issue the OP said that she may be driving 100 miles a day. Would a 1 litre car be the best option for this?

I think the OP would be best going round different dealers (Ford, Toyota, Peugeot etc.) and driving both new and 2nd hand cars (of the same model but with possible different engine sizes and trim options) and then make a decision on what she has actually driven - Could be a fun day, driving lots of different new cars. Did the I see the OP says she is going to have a test drive tomo, the salesman will be expecting her to sign on the dotted line!

    Interesting thread

The deal look ok to me from a finance point of view but is this the right car.

With the 100+ miles a day.

A couple of things come to mind after running a hire car for similar milage over a number of weeks*

I would look carefully at the running costs especialy at higher speeds if the trip will include good roads.

Long distance ride/noise at higher speeds does it have the legs and comfort.

    Tax is £120 bracket.

Might be worth a look at the diesel, better fuel, lower car tax to offset the higher cost.

    * I rented a Getz 1.3 for 6 weeks for work, on paper it looked good but motorway driving at 65+ economy was pants.

I had similar concerns but in Claires post after the visit to Lookers she said that the deal was available on red and white cars - presumably as metallic paint cost more and affect the deal.
