I think some people are reading the headline figure of £10500 and saying oh how proposterous. These cars are always available heavily discounted so the RRP is irrelevant0

Try phoning a dealership and saying 'Lookers are offering ...... what can you offer me?' You have to try and think like a dealer ..
I would agree, i'd try three local dealers and see what they can do. Physically turn up though - most wont talk figures over the phone.0 -

£6750?
How much is an equivalent Fiesta or Peugeot?
I would not buy a Ford or a Peugeot.
The £6750 is the cash price after scrappage, the OP is not paying cash.
My advice to the OP would be to wait until the scrappage scheme has ended, it is just distorting the market at the moment.0 -

What would you buy then?
The £6750 is the cash price after scrappage, the OP is not paying cash.
The £6750 is the amount the O/P has to finance with NIL deposit (other than their own scrappage qualifying car), the other £3500 is dealer discount, manufacturer contribution and government contribution that the O/P wont have to pay.
My advice to the OP would be to wait until the scrappage scheme has ended, it is just distorting the market at the moment.
Irrespective, the government is sticking £1000 into this deal AND currently the VAT rate is at 15% not 17.5% (changes back in november), therefore if the o/p takes your advice and waits until next year, that extra benefit of £1000 AND £140 of VAT saving wont be there.
Do you really think Vauxhall will suddenly find an extra £1140 MORE in discount, over and above the £2500 they're currently giving?
I think not.0 -

What odds? If the O/P likes it and its a good deal and they can afford it, then whats the issue?
Can you recommend better, for less?
Or is it easier just to make smart comments?0 -
I wouldn't buy any new car, complete waste of money, even tho' I can afford to.
I would certainly not even consider getting in to debt for a new car in this financial climate.
To pay interest on top of the actual cost of a car is sheer stupidity in my book.
If I was forced to give an answer to your question, probably a Hyundai i20 would be a better choice than any Vauxhall.
I am aware that VAT is due to increase, but I still think that there will be better deals available when the fields start filling up with unsold cars again.0 -
I would say that 99.99% of us have to compromise when we buy a car.
£10k for a 1 litre Corsa is WAY overpriced, simpe as that. It would be prudent for the OP to look at a 2nd hand model that may be a year old (but still in the new shape) to get an idea of what savings could be made.
With reference to the being able to afford it: 5 years is quite a financial commitment, who knows what lies ahead? Maybe a second hand car could be had for a similar monthly payment but a loan repaid over only 3 years. I would strongly urge the OP to consider this, but alas I am not going to research this for them, maybe someone else will.
I don't really want this thread to go down the line of the £11K loan to buy a Yellow Seat Leon......0
