Hi
Ticking along nicely ATM. Did not have to buy much today just toothpaste and some tin's from Mr M and spent £2.61
Still under for my £10 a day target0 -
Well done chums, you are all doing so well sticking to things.
I did go to the bank this morning to pay a cheque in, and even walked around Mr T's but I didn't spend any money:j:j so I am really pleased as this will be my third NSD in a row.
Tomorrow I shouldn't need anything as I have made a lasagne for lunch as my friend is visiting, and in the afternoon we are off to my craft club so the most spend there will be 20p for a cuppa and a biscuit.
Out of a weeks budget of £30.00 I have spent only £11.63 so my china chook in the kitchen is going to get fed £18.37 tonight:j.Tomorrow I start again with £30.00 for the next 7 days.0 -
Had to go into the Co-op again as we'd run out of milk, soya milk and bananas. Also picked up a couple of lemons and a tub of Co-op buttery marg so I can make DH some fig rolls this afternoon. They always used to be his favourite but I've never tried making them myself before, yet the recipe looks very straightforward so I'm looking forward to seeing the result! That should then keep him happy for a week or two.
DS, meanwhile, is still happily munching on the gingerbread men (and cats, pigs, stars, hearts, and various Thomas and friends engines, and of course the Fat Controller) that we made on Saturday, so he's all right for the moment too. And I've got Nigella's 'breakfast bars' which are gorgeous and healthy and my staple snack at the moment while I'm trying not to eat too much chocolate.
...Sorry, that got away from me a bit!
Anyway, adding £9.12 to my spend, which brings me to a very impressive total of £39.30 for my first full week on the grocery challenge! I'm very, very pleased with that! :-)
Oh, forgot to add that I finally got round to sorting out the freezer this morning and I now have loads of space, a list on the kitchen wall of what there is to be used, and also discovered 3 sea bass fillets from our less frugal days!!! Which is enough for a meal! (As opposed to the 1 lemon sole fillet, 1 1/2 mackerels and 2 salmons steaks, which I may need to combine in some way which isn't fish pie because DH won't eat that *grin*).I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Broke my toe on Thursday and can't to my shop this week so I'll have to survive on what's in my cupboards!
Although it's going to keep my costs down this week I wouldn't recommend it as a way to be money saving!0 -

Um, don't think I can post links yet (?) but anyway I just googled 'fig roll recipe' and went for one that sounded easy - it's the 3rd result I got, at All recipies UK.I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

I am going for a second month at £150, but I have already blown a third of it!
I had been away at my OH's, so spent £9 before I started, then the obligatory once a month bacon sarnie on payday (a whole £2.15, normally I bring in the bacon n nuke it in the microwave for hm bacon sarnie). Finally I did a singleton shop for this week and the last week of the month.
The rest of the month will be a reall challenge though, lol. My OH will be staying for a f/n and I'm NOT going to increase my amount. He will be adding £20 to the grocery amount (but I'm keeping it separate) and will buy a selection of cheeses for £5 (I'm putting another £5 from the GC in as well, for a special anniversary treat). I'm going to see if I can keep in line, as we are going on holiday in October (all inclusive, fill yer boots.... yay!) and I'll need some spends...
This is what's keeping me in line, remember spain, remember spain...EJBG2001
I'm not complaining, I'm supporting the process of continuous improvement.
Stepping off the property ladder for now, may climb back on later.0 -

We had great school dinners at my junior and grammar school and cheese pie was one of my favourites, served with mashed potato and either salad or baked beans.
There are several variations of the school cheese pie recipe on the School days recipes thread but the first one in this post is very like the one I make. I also sometimes fill a pastry case with cheesy mashed potato, sprinkle more grated cheese on top (and a couple of slices of tomato if I'm feeling flush) and bake till the cheesy top is nicely browned. They're all great; starting to feel hungry now......
edited to say that the basic cheese pie I made is just very cheesey mash with grated cheese and sliced tomato on top, no pastry. That's pretty good too, sometimes add chopped onion to the mash. I love cheese ......... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
