  • Hi everyone - kids both back at School today so felt a bit funny here so kept myself busy in the Kitchen. Made a Curry with leftover Beef from last night's roast and have bulked it up with loads of veggies for Dinner tonight. Also had some Chickpeas soaking overnight so that I could make myself some Hummous, had some of it at lunchtime with Oatcakes and carrot sticks, yummmmy.;)

Planning to make a start on my Xmas Baking this week, just need to get a couple more ingredients tomorrow and then I will be making Mincemeat, Xmas Puds and Xmas Cake. Like to let the flavours mature until Xmas.;)

rosieben - thanks for the Link to the School Dinners pages, just had a quick look and looks great so will have a proper read through that later.:A

    Have a good evening everyone.:D

I haven't been out today as didn't need/want anything. Might go for a wander tomorrow though.

I took what I thought was bacon out of the freezer earlier (I remember putting a few rashers in a bag) and defrosted it to be used in my quiche...and it turned out to be beef! Oops. I already have my meals planned for the week and that wasn't included in that (obviously :p) so I just stir fried it with some veg (including broccoli stalks i'd usually bin), some chilli sauce and noodles so have a portion in the fridge now. I'll either have it for lunch tomorrow or try and wedge it in the freezer for another week.

So with no bacon for the quiche i've settled on broccoli, cheese and layered it with tomato. I've only made a quiche once before and it was lovely, but decided to try this one without cream. Hope it works.

That's in the oven now along with a blackberry and apple pie (looks very rustic as i'm not the best at making pastry) and some rice i'm baking for dinner. Once cooked i'll do a couple of sausages to go with it (with pie for afters...it'd be rude not to)
I never use cream in a quiche just eggs and a splash of milk, been making them this way for nearly 30 years.
One thing I do do though is put the grated cheese in first so it covers the base.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman
  • 2nd NSD in a row for us plus its our wedding anniversary today (12 years) didnt do anything special - might make up for it later with a free undercover celebration (so spending required!!!)
Took leftovers for lunch dh was at home with kids (working at home) left them lots of HM treats so they didnt need to spend any money (DH is good at not spending its me that spends ALL the money anyway!!)

    Have a god evening everyone!
    Sep GC - £465/£400:rolleyes: Oct GC - £401/400 ;) Nov GC - £ 291.32/400

Hi Lauhen, I have used mozarella that was over a week out of date for a pasta bake and had no problems. It had been kept in the fridge and was fine when I opened it.

Have updated my total to include a few small spends since Friday but as I am aiming for £40 a week for each of the 3 weeks of September before going on hols am happy to be still under that amount. ;)

Still loads of meals in fridge & freezer and meal plans almost complete until we go away - will only have to buy a couple of meat things and fresh fruit, milk, bread etc.

Enjoying reading everyone's efforts and still learning a lot!
  • Evening all. Gained another two apples from mum's garden. Now have enough to make a pie I think. Yay, free pie.
