  • Good morning everyone

just posted a long reply and it has disappeared:confused: anyway here is an abridged version.

Congratulations to all the "mums to be":j

and for those of you who feel you are not reaching all your targets, please don't beat yourself up too much as my signature states we are all on a journey which will take time.

Keep buying all the "whoopsies" it stops them going to landfill.

Tesco have Ariel soap powder reduced from £11 to £5.50.

    Have a lovely day everyone.
It takes a long time to eat an elephant and I'm doing it a bite at a time!!!
  • Just done a weekly shop and spent £26.97, bringing my total up to £47.81 this month. Think I'm going to have to stop buying a whole chicken just for the 2 of us. It's nice to have but I'm happy to eat veggie pies (still sloping in the freezer) and give OH a chicken breast. Still, not doing bad so far...

do most people use cash to achieve their goals. i prefer to use my credit card as i get points and i know where i am. my teenagers always need my cash.

I use my cards. I have found making up a list on MySupermarket very helpful, as you can see if there is an offer on, a cheaper per 100g alternative, and add up as you are going along. I don't stick to the list religiously in the shop, but I will only add another fivers worth of stuff. :T

Cash or cards varies between shops for me.

If I'm doing a 'large' shop (normally around the £20-30 mark these day) for all the tins, packets and frozen veg for the month I regularly use my card.

If I'm nipping into the local stores to check for Whoopsies (or down to A!di for milk and/or bread and/or Super 6), then I try and make sure I have cash as I hate using my card for anything under a fiver.

But I update a spreadsheet with everything I've spent on a daily basis - so I always know exactly where I stand for the month (and year-to-date)

  • gosh the spreadsheet sounds good. i always pay cash for small items but use my credit card for my weekly shops or twice weekly sometimes.

i may do some baking later for lunch boxes but i am feeling a little tired if i am honest and would rather read the paper.

I've just inventoried my freezers for the 1st time ever and boy do we have alot so there should be no need to buy meat until nearer the end of the month, hopefully. Just been to MrS and bought some Daz thats on offer [80 wash box for £8] will last me for ages as I only use half the recommended amount. Bought some other bits that were on offer as well - 1kg mince for £4 and smoothies were half price [for DD] If there is a margerine shortage I'll make a killing on the black market as I seem to have a fridge and freezer full of the stuff [can't resist it when its half price]

Siggy is updated. Lasagne defrosting for DS and me for tea as DH is working and DD is out with Brownies celebrating their Centenary Year, peaceful afternoon here

Afternoon everyone, touch wood i think my morning sickness may be easing off although i dont wanna get my hopes up just in case.
Had a cheeky take away for tea last night, i was starving for a change and its what i fancied, didnt take much to convince OH, best thing it cost us nowt so it tasted even better:D
Havin a sunday roast today loving prepared by OH and donated by my mum, so yet another freebie meal. I'm loving this.
Now i'm feeling a bit more alive i'm gonna go through freezers and cupboards and draw up some sort of meal plan for us for the next week. OH is back at work (nights) so i'll need stuff i can make ahead of time and re-heat when he wants it. My brain seems to have died tho and i'm in need of some inspiration please. I've got a few large packs of mince but all i can think of is lasagne and cottage pie. Thinking of making pies but i'm not confident in my pastry making skills:o

Funnily enough, I was just wondering the same thing as I had my shopping delivered this morning. My own executive decision is NOT to include it, as when I suggested to my DH that I got off my backside and WENT to Tesco's to save the delivery charge, he pointed out that by the time I'd spent a good hour schlepping round it AND the petrol to drive there (we live in The Middle Of Nowhere) that £5.50 is a bargain - plus I usually get codes to negate the delivery charge... except I didn't this week.

Anyway, I'm not counting, so there!

My weekly shop came in at about 60% of the usual this week, so we'll see how it goes: life would be cheaper - but nevertheless poorer - without teenage sons munching their way through pizza and assorted !!!! and turning up their noses at HM versions (except cakes, but I can only bake so many). Wouldn't be without him though...

    NSD yesterday, woohoo!
