Thanks for another receipe for my 'Miser's cook book' Moniker.:j
Had another NSD today, and didn't set foot across the doorstep.Out of my scheduled £30.00 from last Tuesday I have only spent £11.63 so still have £18.37. in my purse to last until Tuesday.Won't spend any tomorrow as I won't be near a shop, so on Monday I only have some cheese to buy.
I have a big china chicken in my kitchen so any left on Monday night will go in there, and I will start again with £30.00 on Tuesday morning from my shopping account.
It does seem to be better if I only have cash on me when I go to the shops as I am more careful in my purchases than I would be with my switch card.
Still shopping from my freezer and storecupboards.I have a friend visiting me for lunch next Tuesday, and have already sorted out from the freezer what I will cook on Monday night. Next week-end may be a bit of a test as my sis-in law is coming on Friday night for a couple of days and next Saturday we are going to Penshurst Place craft fair. But there are lots of free samples in the food hall there to try, plus I will take a picnic with us plus a flask.Luckily she is like me a pensioner and watches her pennies quite a bit as well. But it will be the temptaion to buy some goodies for Christmas that I will have to watch.I think we are all doing very well and I'm off to have a G&T and watch some catch-up t.v. Have a good week-end everyone:beer:0 -
Hi folks, have just updated my sig - I had to spend another £2.07 today on a cauliflower (none in Sainsbury's last night) and some coleslaw. Have had a manic day , cut the grass, cleaned the house, did two wash loads and the ironing, made a cake for MIL who is coming for lunch tomorrow and cooked supper - Navarin of lamb (posh lamb stew!) in the sc. There was enough to freeze for another day.
I notice that quite a few of you like Waitrose - have you seen the review of organics versus the basics ranges for the main supermarkets which was published in the Times today(Can you really taste the difference?)? Waitrose came out on top though Sainsbury's was cheapest. It makes interesting reading. Read it here:

Off to collapse on the sofa!

Well am not impressed, just did a thread and then submitted it and it vanished and my laptop froze! Cant be bothered typing it all again so

Will update signature in a min
Night all0 -
do most people use cash to achieve their goals. i prefer to use my credit card as i get points and i know where i am. my teenagers always need my cash.0
-
Popped into MR T which was handy because it meant free parking in town centre and a saved going to the bank for cash.
Only bought gravey granuals 68p and bread 90p
I am actually finding it easier to buy bits as I need them rather than a "big" shop.
Friend over for dinner so did a roast as planned but was inventive with pud.
Made a rice pudding using an unopened pack of ground rice I had at the back of the cupboard. Topped it off with "Carribean Bananas" (!) which meant I melted butter and golden sugar into a pan (Didn't have any darker sugar) and fried a chopped up banana in it. Then I added a few drops of rum essence and water (didn't have any Rum) and let it all go syrupy.
Served on top of rice pud. Presentation wasn't great but it tasted nice.0 -

We normally get our razor blades from Wilkinsons, where they're quite a bit cheaper. (Or Boots when they're doing Buy 2 get 1 free.)
I have to admit this is one thing my DH has actually subscribed to for quite a while. He's been spending ridiculous money on other things, but he will wait for me to go to Wilkinsons for his razor blades, shaving gel, deodorant, aftershave balm etc. :-)I'm broke, not poor. Poor sounds permanent, broke can be fixed. (Thoroughly Modern Millie)

Yesterday was an NSD for me - but I spent most of my time batch cooking instead !!
Having 'found' freezer space with the stock-take/re-org the other night, I've now filled sooooo many 500g margarine tubs with stuff to be frozen that both my freezers and my fridge are struggling for space!!!
I made up 14 portions of my thick veg soup, some stewed apple (some put into ice cube trays for when we have pork chops/steak/roast - I'm the only person uses it, so jars are struggling to last until I've used it all - and some in a tub for a crumble at some point), and 4 portions of curry for DS (complete with small quantities of onion and butternut squash which were blended before adding - only equates to half a portion of veg per portion of curry, but it's better than the none he has now)
3 portions of the curry are now in the freezer (kept one out for tea tomorrow), along with 3 of the soup. About to pull the pork steaks for tea tonight, but I doubt these will make space for another tub. Should get a couple more in after I take out the frozen veg later on thoughIn the meantime I'm going to try moving small items into 'gaps', in the hope this frees up larger spaces for some of the rest of the soup. I can keep a few out though (one a day until Tuesday or Wednesday), so that's a bit less space I need.......
And I almost ran out of marge tubs, so (as I only add 1 to my pile every 6-8 weeks) I'm going to have to put out an appeal to local friends asking them to wash/save any they may use for me...... the situation hasn't been helped by DD dropping and breaking one when I did a batch cook for her, and a couple giving out on me through normal wear and tear - guess they'd been in the freezer once too often :rolleyes2
*Edit* Made space for another tub - changed the meal plan for tomorrow, so instead of liver casserole for me (one small freezer bag), I'm having the Minced Beef Hotpot ready-meal I got in clearance a fortnight ago for 39pCheryl0 -
oops - my target was £200 for the month (ends on 22nd) - and I have now spent £200.50!!!
Still the freezer is full - so just f & v to get
Its not good (hangs heads in shame!)44 day challenge
