Wish my mum and dad had taught me the value of saving! My dad is so terrible with money and now at the age of 70 can admit it!!!

    I wonder is it inherited!

Glad you have a super new card IMD - and it is of course a good debt and one that you wont have to add it.............and still you get a prize at the end.....Ricardo never offered that!!

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

Don't feel so bad about DD now - think you are right and that she will appreciate it more. If she needs things like school uniform, if she didn't have a huge wardrobe full of clothes then of course I would pay for things, but the things she wanted in my view were non-essential, another pair of skinny jeans to add to the 4 pairs she had and I therefore couldn't justify the spend. Felt a bit bad when little DS offered to pay for half of his school PE kit though :rotfl: Have explained how we will pay for certain things but not things that are just "wants". As well as this, they have had two days out which they have really enjoyed so I won't feel too bad.

They are away this week enjoying themselves and me and OH are wandering around kind of lost not sure what to do with ourselves.

Money is extremelyyyyyyyyy tight this month and there is a car shortfall. I can transfer it from the credit card if I need to but I want to raise the money some other way if possible.

Have only just worked out that I need to buy bingo cards with me free scratch card winnings - doh! So bought some and won nothing!

I was very naughty yesterday and in a complete moment of weakness bought two books half price - I'm cross as I have loads at home I haven't read but I really wanted these and will sell them on Amazon later. That looks so bad after complaining about money being tight :o

Both me and OH have social plans this weekend but expenditure reduced by me being designated driver and avoiding transport and alcohol costs. Need to go through the kids wardrobes as we have a christening this weekend and suspect I may have to get DS smart shirt or something but will try Mr T's for that one.

Am tapering on my running now which bizarrely is stressing me as I use running as a stress reliever and then I obsess about losing fitness for the marathon - blah de blah de blah......
Off to dream now about what I would do if I won Euromillions tonight.............

My two are more than used to going halves or paying for things themselves. Like you, I will always pay for school uniform and essentials, but if they just "want" stuff, then that is a different matter. They've never complained so far!

How about going for a long walk instead of going for a run......that's allowed!

Enjoy the Euro millions dream - it's one of my favourites!

As for bingo, I've had a few wins from buying them with the winnings - £94 once! :T
So keep doing the odd one, you might get lucky and win a few quid :)

Hi IMD I think it is good for children to go halves sometimes or even pay in full. My son lost 3 coats once in quick succession. I made him buy the fourth out of his own money. That one he has never lost although he seems to have lost 2 others since still... I am contemplating making him buy replacements again want to make sure they are definitely not in the house first....

Also - how many 12 year old boys actually wear coats? I can't get mine to!!!

Naughty me not coming on :o just been so busy this weekend and it made a change not having the time to sit and stress about money.

Busy weekend meant spending money but we are now back to being a two car family. Boiler is "pretending" to work and I have embarked on a dispute with an over-charging Doctor, so all is well.

Feel a lot more positive this week as well, although not sure why as I am still £200 short in the current account and have about 10 days to sort it out before the DD takes us over our limit, but I am working on it.

Have been giving thought to a part time job but realistically I don't have the time and it would affect the kids so it appears to be a no no.

On the running front, did a good run yesterday but then had a twinge and panicked that I would never run again :rotfl: Having spent the majority of the night worrying about it I woke up this morning and was fine!

    Things to do tomorrow:-

    (1) - cancel old car insurance, just realise I forgot
    (2) - ring Bank to see where my savings book is as I want to see a book with credit in it for a change
    (3) - do a bin bag challenge and find things to sell
    (4) - contemplate cleaning out my wardrobe as I have far too many clothes to wear and could make a profit from disposing of some
    (5) - remember to do my leg stretches in order to avoid any frantic frenzy about not being able to run!

Glad that things seem a bit better - you will get that £200 together in time, I am sure of that.

As one who has done a full time job, followed immediately by a part time job, fitting it in round the children, I would say don't do it unless you really have to.

I would do it again, of course I would, if I needed to, but I would think very carefully before doing so, because it really did wipe me out (although the money was a lifesaver, and without it we would have gone under, so it was a no brainer for me at the time!).
