Is anybody else making their own?
I will be spending all day in the kitchen with my best friend the day before the wedding, and to be honest we both love baking so it will be a fabulously girly day, surounded by chocolate.
Am having chocolate cupcakes with chocolate icing anda minstrel perched on top. I figured if it was all dark chocolate any little imperfections wouldn't show up as much.
i'm going to have a cupcake tree with a "proper" cake on top from asda to cut :rotfl: nobody will eat it though cos nobody likes fruit cake, it will be purely for show!!
hoping to get it looking something like a cross between these. my theme is pink and silver, so i'm hoping to have silver on the cake bit, silver cupcake cases, white icing like on the first cake and pink and silver hearts or flowers on them. i did find a recipe to make flowers here (if i can really be bothered when the time comes!!)
i also think these are gorgeous, but i wouldnt be able to make them myself which is guttingMummy to

Its now been 4 months to the day since we got married!

I made my own cake! Mainly because I wanted the satisfaction, enjoyment and challenge of doing it myself, partly because it saved money (though any saving there ended up being splurged on the topper!), and partly because we are vegan, so this way I knew what we were getting. I think it ended up being pretty perfect, if I do say so myself, but I wasn’t actually overly concerned about it being ‘perfect’, as I was happy for it to look like it was homemade, and homemade with love!
SkyKitty, how big will yours be? My advice: do not underestimate how long it all takes. Unless you have an industrial oven and industrial-sized mixing bowls, you'll have to do things in batches, which adds quite a lot of time to the whole thing. Ours was indeed a labour of love!
Two tiers were carrot cake (but without the raisins as I can’t stand raisins!), two chocolate fudge cake - one with chocolate chips and one without, and I made two spare tiers that weren’t on display in vanilla sponge – just to get a good variety for our guests, and ensure there was plenty to go round. All cakes were vegan.
Edit: Aaaaargh - I am unable to add photos, as I am a new user! When will I be able to add links, does anyone know??? Once I build up a few more posts, I'll try and come back and edit in the photos. I also don't know why the quotes from SkyKitty have been split in two. Any advice?
My dress was ivory rose, so the pink icing matched, and my bridesmaids were in peppermint ice blue/green, so matched the other tiers! The ribbony bits of organza between the tiers were all over my dress too.:starmod:I'm a SAHM to a smiley snuggly adventurous cheeky bundle of b:male:y b.Oct10. :j
We're a vegan family. We do cloth nappies/wipes, dabble with ECing, use toiletries without parabens/SLS etc, co-sleep, baby-wear, BF, BLW, eco-ball laundry, and we plan to home educate (ideally not at home too much - we want to travel the globe).:starmod:0 -

Mines was an M&S job as I had some vouchers from doing surveys I handed over £19 in cash. Flowers on cake top were £10. butterflies £15. No idea who decided to plonk the cakes on top of each other still on there boards. Obviously only the bottom one was supposed to be left on!!
Was a bit dissapointed when I saw it but didn't think it worth worrying about, would have looked a bit nicer though.Booo!!!0 -
This is my cake. We got married 3 years ago and I made the cake myself.Smashed through my weightloss target. Looking at 120lbs+ loss. BMI over 40 down to 20.5. Training hard to get body fat under 20%, not far to go now :j0

We are having three tiers. One will be chocolate sponge, one will chocolate marble and the top tier will be lemon.
It's costing £35 per tier so £105 altogether. It is a friend of my Mum's who is making it, she makes fantastic cakes! And we also get the added bonus of a discount!!
There will be burgundy ribbon round the base of each cake with the crystal over that, all the crystals are going to be clear. Our topper is a monogram one from Ebay. It is just the mirrored one and cost £9.95
Tiger xxxi love this cake2010 is the year of bargain shopping! Time to money save, exercise and plan! I like to keep busy0
