I've just reported it to watchdog anyway.
I'm the same as other people, if they'ed just said that a mistake had been made, I wouldn't be bothered about it.
I was looking forward to that as well.

Have emailed Watchdog, the consumer editors at the Guardian & independent and trading standards. https://www.ConsumerComplaints.org.uk For submitting complaints to, or requesting advice from, your local Trading Standards Service
This morning received an email from Smiths to say my order has been reinstated ::)
Trading standards left a vm for me at work and I will report back what they have to say.

I thought I had posted this on day but cannot find the thread
"Dear Customer,
We recently wrote to you to inform you that due to an unprecedented level of demand for the product you ordered, we had been unable to source stock from our suppliers, and so were cancelling your order. You replied, stating that you nevertheless wished to reinstate your order, as you were prepared to wait 45 days for us to try and fulfil your order before we cancelled it (as per our website terms and conditions).
However, further to our recent e-mail acknowledging your re-order of the product, we are sorry to inform you that we are not able to accept this second offer, and so will be also be cancelling this order after 72 hours of this email being sent. Please reply to this email within the 72 hour period if you wish to purchase this item at the corrected price as listed on the website shortly. This is due to a (now corrected) technical error with our software, which resulted in an incorrect price being displayed for the product (and which was also the cause of the unprecedented level of demand).
Although we appreciate that you may be disappointed that we have had to take this measure, we are under no legal obligation to fulfil your order at that price, or at all. Our website terms and conditions clearly state that we do not enter into a contract with you until we charge your credit or debit card for the product you have expressed an interest in purchasing. As this has not yet happened, we are therefore within our rights to cancel the order.
As communicated in our previous email however, due to this genuine error, a gesture of goodwill of up to 10% off your next purchase is still available, which is valid until the 31/01/2005. To take advantage of this, please click on the link below:
http://www.whsmith.co.uk/WHS/go.asp?shop=4622 - Exclusions apply as set out below*.
We are sorry that your experience of shopping with WHSmith Direct was not wholly satisfactory on this occasion, however we feel the explanation above clearly outlines the reasoning behind our actions.
Regards,
