He could be telling the truth. I was reading somewhere else that some people who ordered received theirs & had it delivered this morning.

I got the cancellation email this afternoon yet my online order is still showing "invoiced for imminent dispatch"

I have reported them to Watchdog. It only took a minute and it cannot do us any harm.

same here, if they had at least told the truth that it was a misprice as i cannot believe it is now out of stock.

I did check our local smiths store todayand they said it wasn't coming up on their computer as even being in existence.

I ordered when there was only about 2 posts in the original thread,wednesday morning,They dont seem to have taken any money out of my account so i rang them,I spoke to a guy who tracked my order and then said it had been dispatched and it was with the courier,I think he said the curier was called A M P, so at the moment i dont know if i will receive it or not,

Now have to go buy some last minute pressies... not impressed, I will definately be contacting watchdog today & their customer services next week.

2nd email. The story's changed from 'unprecedented demand', to 'out of print'


Lying swines, suggest folk contact Watchdog as above. They have trigger limits for stories (ie based on number of complaints). The more folk that complain, the more chance of Smiths being shamed into action. Don't moan and do nothing. Moan and take ACTION

I emailed Watchdog. If they had been honest and said it was a pricing error I wouldn't take it any further but they have blatantly lied about the reason for cancelling the order.
I don't know if I'm alone in thinking there are way too many "misprices" appearing online with big companies lately. To me it seems deliberate.

just sent this back to whsmith;

"Dear Sir/Madam

I am unhappy that my order has been cancelled and do not believe the reason you have stated to be true.  I believe that you decided  to sell the items ordered for more money than you had originally offered them for sale at.   I would welcome a response to this Email.   If you do not wish to respond I shall consult the trading standards department, and have been advised to inform the BBC Watchdog team."
