I've actually had several different e mails now stating various reasons why I will not be getting my Futurama set. I have emailed WH Smith advising them that this item is still freely available and not 'out of print' as they suggest. I have also told them that they appear to believe this item to be a book as they suggest I might be able to find old and out of date books 'like this' on abebooks!

I'm sure it won't make any difference, but it makes me feel like I have done something.

I got the email without the 10% off. Funny it says "We have received a report that the the above title is out of print", makes it sound like they heard it as gossip, LOL.

Anyone think emailing Watchdog will get us anywhere?
  • Anyone think emailing Watchdog will get us anywhere?

    YES..........
  • 10%? How kind of them!

I'd urge nobody to use the 10% link, although I doubt you were considering it anyway. This whole thing stinks of underhand sales tactics, companies are using price discrepancies as a source of free advertisement.
  • I have reported them to Watchdog. It only took a minute and it cannot do us any harm.
    Good luck everyone

  • If anyone wants to write to watchdog, I posted this to their 'online purchasing' section :

WH Smith advertised a Futurama box set at 14.99 and a Lord of the Rings boxset at 4.99 on their website, and are now claiming that they are unable to source stock from their suppliers, instead sending customers a link for 10% off. Seems like an underhand tactic to advertise and incentivise people to buy their sale products.

The Futurama set was up there for several days, ordered on Monday, and only cancelled TODAY! If it was a pricing error, it should have been removed before today, as yesterday and Wednesday were both working days, and if it was a genuine offer and they honestly can't fulfill demand (as per their excuse), they should be satisfying demand with stock from their shelves instore, which is plentiful.

    - Andrew

... If they were honest about this price mistake, and it only happened with Futurama and they dealt with it quickly, I wouldn't have a problem. But as it is they are claiming it is a legitimate offer which is out of stock, and lying so that they don't have to fulfil orders.
