  • For original posters question, I think you will be interested in reading the following regarding how much extra BT are actually charging AOL per household.......certainly does not, in my opinion, equate to the over 80% increase AOL have applied to many rural customers:

    Hi,

    I to am with AOL.
I am coming to the end of my 18month contract with them (I got the free laptop offer) It was £27 a mont (i think) for the laptop free calls and up to 8m with supposed "unlimited" dl's.

Sooo, its the end of the contract now and I am wondering whether to cancel them and take out Skys BB/tv/phone or see if I can get another free laptop/ps3 etc.

    Any ideas ?

I took up the same offer too. Have been paying £24.99 for almost 2 years but at the time, I needed a laptop & couldn't afford to buy one outright so was happy enough with the deal. My contract is up in Nov so I have been looking into changing. Tonight however, I had a call from aol asking if I was happy with their service. I said I was & then they said as I was coming to the end of my contract, they could offer me a better deal. £14.99 for the same service which is wireless bb plus they would upgrade my talk talk package to include all landline calls not just evening & weekends which I currently have. They said it was an 18 month contract & asked if they could sign me up straight away. I said that although it was a good offer, I was renegotiating my sky package & was considering including their bb package as well. They then said ok, then we'll let you have it all for £6.99 a month. I still stalled & said that I didn't want to be tied into an 18 month contract. They have now offered it to me for £6.99 on a 12 month contract. Can't believe how easy it was. :T
  • Hi,
I think you are all being very unkind to AOL.
My problem was quickly resolved when I followed AOL advice and called Microsoft, the router manufactures and the PC builder. Mind you the problem was a firewall problem that my mate resolved.
It did stop me having a boring day and their free helpline does only cost about 5p a minute and it is nice to chat to so many different people.
    Tongue firmly in cheek!!!!!!!

I know your tongue's in your cheek, but as you've let slip - the joke's on you. It really wasn't AOL's fault - it was an issue with your firewall.

So AOL were right in advising you to seek support from your PC's normal tech support channels - as it was a PC issue, not an ISP issue.
  • Hi.
Please read the splendid service Joe got with his mouse/touchpad.
The first thing the my mate, PC specialist, said was to check firewall.
He does this sort of thing for a living.
Howver, I am minded that if it is not an ISP problem everbody else will help.

anyone got the aol phone number?
    are there any freephones numbers?
  • Just seen that AOL have taken £19.31 out of our bank a/c for our silver broadband a/c. It's been £9.99 for as long as I can remember. Logged on to their online software and it seems this is a pro-rata figure and the normal amount will be £17.99 per month.

Phoned them up and they said an email had been sent, I didn't get it, and he went on to say that there's nothing they can do because BT openreach are charging them £17.00 per month to rent the equipment.

Anyone know if that BT figure is correct ?

 I thought i wrote this message myself only the email waas sent to an inactive screen name and has disappered now i know the email might not have been posted in the first place, when i phoned aol they said i could have my broadband for £14.99 a month, i don't know i have been with aol for the past 10 years and have had no problems so i think now i should change???? i can get broadband for £5.99 at pulsenet but i haven't heard of them. so what is aol playing at?

    Your a complete moron.

    Your? Methinks not!

I've been with AOL on and off for years but would like to change as I find the service is c**p since AOL UK went Carphone Wharehouse. It's just the thought of the 10 million addresses on my main account that will need notifying. Does anyone know if they (AOL) still offer a cheapo limited service? I used this years ago as it gave me time to switch all the accounts etc to the new provider (unfortunately that time it was Tiscali - Ugh!)

Plusnet is part of BT. You can only get the £5.99 rate on Market 3 exchanges, not on any others, otherwise it is £11.99.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I think someone has been recruited by AOL to post messages on boards like these praising them. How do i know, I was contacted also.

Before Carphone took over i used to praise AOL & even got most of my family signed up. Since they took over my connection got steadily worse, Almost unuseable at times.

I left AOL when they got rid of the hosts/leaders who used to monitor the chat rooms & message boards. Chat rooms are now not safe for children anymore. They do have a couple of so called moderators, These are usually friendly to the people that actually cause the trouble & abuse other members.

Recently a member of my family got the shock of the price increase & when contacting AOL they were told we did email you, This is not true. No emails in her inbox, spam folder or old email.

Appears they are increasing the price for people whose exchanges do not have AOL's own equipment installed. Other providers seem to charge a similar amount for non unbundled exchanges. Check your exchange at samknows.com other providers maybe installed and offer a cheaper option.

Seems they no longer want customers. Shame really it used to be good.
