Hi,Tis I. All I did was disable the "tapping"and reduced the sensitivity of the touchpad, not bad for AOL is it, on freephone too. I recommend "fedup" gets back in touch with AOL and does a bit of bartering, it worked for me.I was on silver @£17.99 just for broadband, unless there is due to be a change across the board then I should be in the same boat? They need you more than you need them.HAGGLE.

I did prev haggle with them when thx to this board I found out others were getting the gold package that I had @ £24 odd a month IIRC for £9.99 a month. I succeeded in getting £9.99 and that's where it's been for the 18 months or whatever of the contract. Apparently this new increase is for customers in rural areas where AOL don't own the equip in the exchange.

Having said that I will try and have a haggle to see what I can get prior to looking at switching.

But you said 'mouse' in your original post. A mouse is not a touchpad...had you described the problem accurately then no doubt many people on this board could have advised the same cure.

In fairness, joe134 is a typical AOL user. No wonder he loves AOL so much.

No problems, glad you got it sorted. As for AOL, I can only conclude that they must employ just the one person with any technical ability whatsoever-and you were lucky to get him that day!

Probably right, however since carphone warehouse own aol.uk that alters things a bit, and they don,t come any different than any other ISP on the market. It all depends on what you want from an ISP and what it costs, everything else is irrelevent. silver, gold, platinum, they,re only colours not standards, as I say lifes like a box of chocolates::D PS, I used to be a music buff who always had to have the latest and best HiFi unit, until I realised that all i was doing was listening for the faults and not the music, you can get too technical for your own good. As Bob sais " Be Happy" You identify any other ISP who can give me B/b up to 8mbs, all my local and national calls anytime, 25% off mobiles, freephone for technical help, outside their remit as mine was:and all for £10.49pcm, and my phone is red hot with my wife, I will change tomorrow, thats how commited I am to AOL

Hi, Just curious about AOL e-mail , you say they only keep for a few days, I have just been into mine and there are loads every one going back to 2005 when I joined them? How come?

There may be some settings. But I still haven't found where it is. My inbox only stores it for couple of day and then they disappear.

Then why not just set up Outlook Express/Windows Mail to receive your AOL email?
Can't see much point in a webmail facility that deletes your email after 48 hours!

  • Hi,

    I to am with AOL.
I am coming to the end of my 18month contract with them (I got the free laptop offer) It was £27 a mont (i think) for the laptop free calls and up to 8m with supposed "unlimited" dl's.

Sooo, its the end of the contract now and I am wondering whether to cancel them and take out Skys BB/tv/phone or see if I can get another free laptop/ps3 etc.

    Any ideas ?

The laptop is not 'free', it just bumps up the cost of your broadband and locks you into (usually) a 24 m contract. You can invariably buy the same laptop cheaper outright.
