AOL increase

Just seen that AOL have taken £19.31 out of our bank a/c for our silver broadband a/c. It's been £9.99 for as long as I can remember. Logged on to their online software and it seems this is a pro-rata figure and the normal amount will be £17.99 per month.
Phoned them up and they said an email had been sent, I didn't get it, and he went on to say that there's nothing they can do because BT openreach are charging them £17.00 per month to rent the equipment.
Anyone know if that BT figure is correct ?

If it's pro-rata (i.e price increased part way through your billing cycle) then I don't see how the one-off price can be more than the new monthly rate. That's nonsensical.
AOL's arrangements with BT are nothing to do with your monthly rate, if you are still in your minimum term contract then they can't just hike the rate. And if you are OOC, I would take the hint and change your provider, AOL are one of the worst around. What are your LLU options? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi Thx for the reply.
I'll have a look re the pro-rata issue.
Contract ended part way through Aug which is why they've just upped the rate. Exchange is non-LLU unfortunately. Think I'm limited for options somehow, but £17.00 per month charge from BT to AOL, is that right ? If it is then I can't see how they've got any option but to charge me £17.99.0 -

I got the same increase and called them. According to them they sent the email. But as you probably know AOL email keep the mail in box only for couple of days. So if you don't check this every day you will miss some. Anyway I told them I want my money back otherwise I will use the direct debit guarantee to get the money back. At the end they agreed to refund the extra £10.00 charged and put me back on £9.99 for next 3 months and £15.99 after that. Here is the email I got
We are delighted that you have decided to stay on our AOL Broadband Silver package.
This email is to confirm that your price plan has now been changed and your new monthly subscription of £9.99 per month for 3 months, then £15.99 thereafter, will come into effect on your next billing cycle date. In addition, you will also be billed a proportionate daily charge covering the period between your AOL Broadband service being enabled and your first billing date on your new AOL Broadband price plan.
In order to take advantage of this price plan, you will be required to enter into a new 0 month contract. When you placed your order, you made an offer to contract for AOL Broadband on TPH Services Sàrl's standard terms of contract, which is available at http://myaolbroadband.co.uk/contractrenewal. You should receive an offer acceptance letter from TPH Services Sàrl, confirming that your offer has been accepted. Please note there is no actual contract in place until this letter has been sent to you.
From the working day after you agree to the AOL Broadband Agreement, you have a "Co oling Off Period" of seven working days during which you can contact us and cancel your new commitment. (A working day is any day except Saturday, Sunday or a UK public holiday). Should you do so, you will simply revert back to the price plan you were on prior to entering into this new agreement.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to call our dedicated helpline on 0844 499 5555**.
Thank you for your support and we hope you continue to enjoy AOL Broadband.0 -

Why are you limited for options? I can think of plenty of ISP's who can undercut that price and give vastly better service than AOL. If your exchange has no LLU options then you will pay more than LLU, but you can certainly improve on AOL in service and price. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hi, I have been with AOL for years and am paying £10.45 pcm. This includes all calls anytime and 25% off mobiles.there free helpline is very good, just about to pose them now, perhaps someone on here can help. I have been having bother for ages with mouse just taking me to pages I do not want, I only have to hover sometimes or pass over an article for it to take me there. I have been in "ease of access" and the box is unchecked, it,s more a nuisance when you are reading an article then the next thing you are reading something else, because the mouse has been on it momentarily. I would have another word with AOL and threaten to leave, that usually works:0

Are you blaming AOL for your sticky mouse? If it's an old-fashioned ball mouse, just take the ball out and clean the ball and the three sensors.
If it's an optical mouse, try cleaning the laser sensor. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

I am not the one paying AOL £17 pcm , now that is a moron.AOL have e-mailed back already with diagnosis for the mouse problem, and it works. That,s how efficient they are, and all for£10.45 pcm.It takes 1 to know 1
Hang on, I can guess...they told you to reinstall Windows!
'AOL' and 'efficient' in the same sentence is a great rarity on these boards...No free lunch, and no free laptop0
