Hang on, I can guess...they told you to reinstall Windows!
'AOL' and 'efficient' in the same sentence is a great rarity on these boards...
No, nothing that complicated, I speak as I find, the 2 words together are what I have experienced for the last 4 years with them. The free tech advice on the phone 0844 is worth its weight in gold. All they told me to do was ??????????? and it did the trick. Is that what you guessed? "Fair exchange is no robbery"

OP, so are you going to enlighten us with AOL's wonder mouse-cure or not?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Why are you limited for options? I can think of plenty of ISP's who can undercut that price and give vastly better service than AOL. If your exchange has no LLU options then you will pay more than LLU, but you can certainly improve on AOL in service and price.

Forgetting all the mousy going on ;) this "moron" (thx Joe 134) paying £17+ a month to AOL would appreciate any recommendations going re alternative suppliers :money:

Stick your telephone number and post code in

    samknows.com

and see what is available. But if there is not much available then £16 to £18 per month plus £11.25 landline rental is how much you will be paying regardless of who you go with.

(Look under the 'LLU xDSL' and 'Cable' options on the results page.)

Thx for that, it gives me this:

Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
click here to compare packages available to you.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.

The following services are available in your location:
    BT Wholesale ADSL
    BT Wholesale ADSL Max

Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location.
» Compare Broadband packages and prices at this postcode. click here
» Confused about what's available to you? click here

    No LLU or cable available

That means that unfortunately there are no LLU ISP's on your exchange. So all the services are just resold BT Wholesale products and will be around the same price. If you are looking for a non-LLU ISP then I can certainly recommend Namesco, they do a standard Broadband Max product at £14.95 (the 'Gold' option'-free wireless router, 30 day contracts), great CS and reliable service. I was with them for many years and only left because my exchange went LLU, and they do not offer any non-LLU services.

Hi,Tis I. All I did was disable the "tapping"and reduced the sensitivity of the touchpad, not bad for AOL is it, on freephone too. I recommend "fedup" gets back in touch with AOL and does a bit of bartering, it worked for me.I was on silver @£17.99 just for broadband, unless there is due to be a change across the board then I should be in the same boat? They need you more than you need them.HAGGLE.

I got the same increase and called them. According to them they sent the email. But as you probably know AOL email keep the mail in box only for couple of days. So if you don't check this every day you will miss some. Anyway I told them I want my money back otherwise I will use the direct debit guarantee to get the money back. At the end they agreed to refund the extra £10.00 charged and put me back on £9.99 for next 3 months and £15.99 after that. Here is the email I got
Hi, Just curious about AOL e-mail , you say they only keep for a few days, I have just been into mine and there are loads every one going back to 2005 when I joined them? How come?
