Have heard from my Mum about my Aunt. She sent off some jewellery to one of those companies on the telly and they offered her £50, she said to send it back to her and they upped it to £80, she still said send it back. So she got it and took it to the local jeweller and got over £100 for it! So looks like even those companies cant be trusted!Weight loss November 09-January 10: [STRIKE]13lbs[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]20lbs[/STRIKE] 27lbs! :j0

Yes you really need to know the weight (preferably in grams) and the quality(in carats) and the scrap value(around £6.50 per gram for 9 carat) and proportionately more for better quality) before you talk to these people, and from experience...Dont deal with any of these if they wont tell you how much they propose to give you, on the information you have given them...
No, imho, they cant be trusted...but you have to do some groundwork yourself, to make sure you arent getting ripped off....
So far the internet traders appear the most reliable....if youve done your groundwork as above...Couponing....."every little hurts"
Half of the people can be part right all of the time, Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all the people can't be all right all the time. .........I think Abraham Lincoln said that.

For what did you request your gold back?
I got the price for 86g of 9 carat gold. I did request my gold back initially but when they revised their offer it decided to accept it.September 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.
You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x0 -
I have a few bits of Elizabeth Duke stuff that has never been worn, but claims to be 9ct solid rather than plated tat. Would this get the same price as any other 9ct gold or is it real cheap stuff !? Ta :-)0

Isn't 9ct gold, 9ct gold regardless of where you buy it? Like semi-skimmed milk is semi -skimmed milk whether it's from Waitrose or Lidl?
I'm intrigued now.No, Mr A, that is NOT 'Great news'!!
Wombling totals: Oct = £243.32 - £93.32 over target!
Nov Wombling Tally: £27.36 so far... behind target0 -
I don't think these companies are trying to rip you off but they are trying to make as much profit as possible by getting your gold for the cheapest price they can. You don't have to accept the price your offered. If you went into Currys and haggled over the price of a washing machine your be offended if they tried to accuse you of ripping them off.0

Tyzer that's what I thought too, gold is gold surely, but read somewhere on t'internet that you probably won't get much for Elizabeth Duke stuff - can't find the link though and not sure if it was a forum or an article I was reading...0

Elizabeth Duke (the Argos special) is cheap to buy because it is light. So for any company buying on weight you would get very little as the actual gold is only in tiny amounts. Other than that it is exactly the same.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. just like to say i bought some gold off ebay as scrap kept it for about 4 months , then decided to sell it , i looked around on the net and decided hattons were offering the best price , so sent it to them they mailed me a quote , i had weighed it on some kitchen scales so had a rough idea of its weight, i must say i was approx 1.5 grams wrong with my weight , but there quote was actually higher than was quoted as the price they were paying on there website , so i was more than happy and i had made a tidy profit on the scrap i had bought off ebay ,
i had a slight problem as the money was not credited to my account and phoned hattons direct , i was worried i had been ripped off by an unscrupulous dealer , nothing could be further from the truth , i could immediatley speak to a gentleman who sorted everything out very quickly , therefore i would reccommend them as i would always go to hattons if i was ever in the position to sell scrap gold again , i reckon all these high street jewellers must just take there cut and sell the gold on to hattons , easy money for them ,my favourite food is spare ribs0
