Princess Loki, I hope your boy recovers quickly and starts eating quickly!
you must be sick with worry0 -
@ princess, hope he's ok. keep us informed hun x x xBe happy, it's the greatest wealth0

he has eaten a little but have had to actually feed him... still being odd and picking fights with the young one.
it doesn't help that oh and lodger are both upset that he has gone so downhill and we have all had a shouting match in the kitchen about what to do...
the lads say i should just feed him whatever and that we shouldn't give him his medication as it upsets him.
they also think i should call the vets - but i know that all that will happen is he will be admitted and then will not get all of the cuddles that we can give him. lodger has even offered to pay the vet bill - but i don't think that he quite realises how much this will be - call out on a sunday night £100+, drip £20, feeding tube £45, whatever other medicine. then £35 a night at the vets - obviously this is all just approximate... been down this road three times over the past few months and we are just not getting anywhere.........................it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:0 -
loki pork is sometimes hard to digest, could you try sardines or mackerel or chicken?
You could ring the vets for advice, you dont have to take him in0 -
Just re-read your first post re old kitty. There might not be anything else they can do for him and euthanasia may be the only option left rather than letting him suffer any longer? When a cat stops eating it is usually for a very good reason, maybe the cancer is not being controlled any longer...?0

Ours was just under £500 and it was for the same reason as Ambrose except our beloved Sonny didn't make it
He responded well to the first lot of treatment but he blocked back up and was going into kidney failure and was at risk of a heart attack. So sadly we had to say goodbye

princess have you tried a bit of chicken or tinned pilchards in tomato sauce?0

hello all
well after a worrying night his behaviour seems to be normal again. had medication last night and this morning. he has drunk water and eaten some salmon and some very very finely diced pork.
have had to go out for a couple of hours to sort car and find out where i am temping next week (in another town so didn't want to worry about journey). not sure if there has been any bowel movement - off to investigate tray soon!!!
thank you to everyone for your kind thoughts yesterday
he doesn't actually have cancer - we had a biopsy done when he was first ill - it is just that his intestines are extremely thickened and 'hosepipe' like. the specialist in london recommended the drugs that he is on as a last resort so we will have to see how it goes.
having thought about it maybe his strange behaviour was because we got a new washing machine and did lots of drilling for the kitchen worktop....
anyway - unless he gets worse then we will keep on as we are and go to the booked appointment on friday.
i have ordered a feliway deffuser (sp) that will hopefully help to calm them both down (the young one can get excitable!!)it's nice to be important but more important to be nice!! :kisses3:0 -
hi princess loki - i can't remember if it was your kitty who was on leukeran...but please look for any pattern in illness with the administering of the leukeran. when my cat had cancer we tried leukeran, she had to have a tablet every three days. by the time she was due her third dose i realised that it was not agreeing with her at all, she would get sick after taking the pill, i consulted my vet, showed him her cancer diary** and he advised that we stop with that medicine. i would be surprised if it was the leukeran causing the downturn as from what i have read it is a very stable drug tolerated by most cats.
good luck x
** i kept a daily diary when my cat had cancer, noting how she reacted to the chemo drugs, foods eaten, appetite, frequency of toilets, energy levels/demeanour, etc. it really helped me and my vet identify what worked and what didn't for her.0 -
Oh Ambrose you handsome cat! You need to ask Santa for a bigger bed tho...or are you like our cats...the smaller the better?
My most expensive vetbill was £301 which insurance paid for a tail amputation on our cat. What he got up to I don't even want to think about but he now has no tail what-so-ever
Yes! It was a bed for one of my kittens and he used to pinch it :cool:Theres 2 types of horse owner, a person who owns a horse and a horsey person
