Really? You should spend more time on this forum. The stock response is becoming more like shock>incredulation>ridicule&insult every day, when all the OP wants is >help. (Hence my sig)

There has been some good advice though, so this forum is still great for those who can be bothered to sort through the dross.

    Yes, fair comment

But in fairness you tend to find that people only give 75% of the full facts. They attempt to "hide" their minor indiscretions in conflicts which unfortunately can have a HUGE effect on possible or potential resolutions.

 I beleive that is just the nature of forums like this.

If people come across as hypercritical it is because we come from environments where you "cannot" give a definitive answer until every avenue has been looked down or considered. We aren;t nasty people! honest!:D
  • I meant "finally" after everyone else on here has had there "opinions" on this particular issue without further input from the OP.

    NOT as in timeframe wise.

    my turn for a !

Yes it's fine to change what you meant if it means you then get to use the roll eyes back on me. :D
    Male. :o

I, and mean that the postie wouldn't have to carry and return undelivered mail back to the sorting office

Is it not part of a postmans job to return to the office with undeliverbale mail?

I wonder if my employer would like it if I conveniently didnt do part of my job as i wanted to go home!

It seems to me that the most irritating part of your problem is the knocking on the window - how about sticking a polite sign on the inside of the window reminding him not to knock on it, then pointing it out next time you collect a parcel from him. Explain again why it is annoying and bad for your OH's health, and ask him to only ring the doorbell and knock on the door a couple of times before leaving a card, as you are not always able to get to the door - give him a few examples of such occasions! It sounds like you need to spell it out for him, as clearly as possible, and give him a reminder in the form of a sign. You might also want to update it regularly so he notices it!

If that still doesn't work, you do need to speak to the manager personally or write a paper letter. Don't give the manager a huge long story which they won't read or listen to properly, try to summarise the MAIN problems i.e. banging on the window and repeated ringing/shouting/knocking for a number of minutes. Then explain what you expect to happen (eg knock twice, ring twice then leave a card), and what you will do if the problem is not resolved, eg. a letter to Head Office detailing the problem. Give the postman's name if you know it. Finally remember to end the letter politely, as the manager is only human, and is more likely to respond positively to a polite, clear letter than to an agressive rant full of demands.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • Actually, do you not just have a box he could leave a substantial number of items in outside your flat? maybe at the back door? that would solve yours (and what I perceive as his) problems together?

That is a true point however keep in mind that the vast majoriry of customers would like to avoid a visit to the Post office/delivery office to pick up their mail and therefore it is a win/win situation for the postie and customer if he can deliver all his items of mail.

I have a 2 mile drive to the Post Office to return undeliverable mail and therefore so does the customer(-and then back again)
I have a deep burning indifference

Thats called "doorstepping" its not allowed by RM,however posties know about customers sheds, garages etc which they are only too happy to get their out sized items put into avoiding the trip to the Post office.

And there are politer ways to request further information from people. Ultimately the OP will provide as much/little information as they want and that is what we base our advice on. If that advice is subsequently wrong, then it is an issue for the OP, not us.

I too have a hubby with mental health issues and OP you have my sympathy, that sort of disturbance would cause my OH a great deal of distress.
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last
  • Scott - thanks for that - didn;t know it! :-)

Volcano - what is the point of giving useless advice? the Op wants a constructive response - we will give it - but in return we should be allowed the FULL details. And I wasn't rude in asking TBH I got sick of everyone just agreeing with the initial story which was clouded with her initial emotions and references to her husband.

I believe both parties should "bend" in a disagreement. There appear to be faults on both sides of this particular issue.
