Sorry too long to read the whole thread, my advice would be to ring the delivery office and speak to this guys manager. Ask him only to ring your bell if he has mail for you, explain about your husbands health.
Another option would be to have outside mail boxes, which would stop him needing to gain entry to the flats at all. I know it's putting you to extra expense, but wouldn't it be worth it?
Bet your one of the few who looks forward to their normally postman being off sick or on holiday
