Council Pay Freeze

            You talk some sh*t.
The UK car industry with foreign managers had a problem of over capacity. They were producing more cars then could be used by consumers. They had and were continually cutting costs to make themselves more efficient. This had been going on for years before the credit crunch happened.
Once credit dried up hardly anyone was buying new vehicles. And as they were still producing too much this pushed them over the edge.
It's actually the Japanese who are best at manufacturing and exporting products like these not the Chinese. The Chinese have a problem of variable quality control as well as a common disregard for the safety of their workforce and their environment.
So if you want cheap goods produced where safety isn't a concern go to China. However if you want goods where safety and quality are paramount go to Japan or Germany.
 Hold on partner.
Arent you agreeing with me? My basic premise is that the UK car industry was and is fundamentally ill-equipped to serve its purpose. You seem to be agreeing in that you're saying it couldnt adapt to market conditions.
 What's your point?
Chinese, Japanese, German? Who cares? My point is that the UK industry should not be propped up. It should be allowed to die like any other industry (mining, for example) which cannot keep pace with the new global reality.0

            Can I ask one question?
Presumably you consider yourself to be an intelligent man, if that's the case then how can you make such an ignorant, illinformed sweeping statement like that?
What are your experiences with your local councils? What do you really know about the staffing levels and ability of the employees?
What do you do for a living?
 Can you not count, Kriss?
 How's the GF?0

On the surface yes, but it's amazing what a bit of a worldview does for you Steve.
Chinese state-dominated corporations (much as I abhor them) are run with a ruthless efficiency and intolerance on worker rights and benefits that would make even the most hardened capitalism swoon. No gold-plated pensions or cushy jobs for life for their workers these days.
Oh dear  In my view it is the let business fail attitude that has created the mess we have now, with over reliance on financial services and Mc jobs, the Thatcher revolution :rotfl: no should be  The move to a negative manufacturing base, would this have been allowed in China, Germany,Japan Naked capitalism stinks. How likely is that they will freeze our pays?
Im pretty sick of the luck Ive had in my local council. When I joined 3 years ago there was a freeze on pay due to restructuring. I got a £30 pay rise that year.
When I was finally promoted I was told I was stuck at the bottom of my scale until I completed an HNC in Civils as my degree wasnt relevant enough.
Now as Im nearing the end of the HNC I hear they are looking to freeze me for a further 4 years. pfft.
26 years old and even without the pay freeze it will take me 11 years to get to the top of my scale which is only 22 grand. Who says us council workers are overpaid?!?!?!
We have had about a 90% reduction since December so if I could have had a pay freeze for the next 20 years from what we earning before that I would be happy. At the moment I am afraid it is really hard out there and to be working right now is a bonus. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who are desperate for work and will take anything to get by. Hopefully things will turn out okay for you. At least it is a semi-safe job!0

A blanket freeze isnt fair at all.
People at the top of their scales getting paid more than others wont be effected at all. Then people like me who have invested in their eduction and went to uni, only to be told they need a mickey mouse HNC will have a further 4 years to wait to eventually get the same wage as their colleagues.
Its not as simple as just freezing everyones wage.
Ah! The ol' mickey mouse HNC.....
Do tell me, is completing 3 out of 4 years of a geography degree (thus gaining a general science degree) more relevant to your job or is the HNC?
Or should it not matter cause you've done a degree yeah?0
