"No one is belittling public sector employees"

    Hmmm

"God, if it wasn't for councils guys' like you would struggle to find a job"

"Anyone else here finding the common traits with the council workers amusing"

"See here, this is a good example of what we mean about council workers mentality"

    REEEAAAALLLYYY?

    I stand by the comments:

I believe there are many in the councils who would struggle in the private sector. Do you disagree?

There are common traits in how they have a blinkered view and are selective in their arguments.

Kriss boy does seem to be of the mentality that he wants it all without any risk.

As different industries attract different types of individuals, so councils likewise.

Why of why do public sector workers have a problem with facts and become so defensive? It's not belittling, it's just the facts!

What makes me sad about this thread is that i go in to work everyday, i work hard, i dont take time off sick or sit around all day chatting doing as little as possible, i'll do extra work where i can, I take pride in my work in any job ive done, be it the public or private sector.

To be labled a moron, useless and lazy is quite insulting

Don't take it to heart.. its just jealousy, god knows why, but private sector workers somehow see public sector workers as untouchable. If only they knew..

Eh, free? What cloud you on? I pay 6% of my salary towards my pension.. how the hell is that free??? And the LGPS pension isn't all that generous either.

6% is a fraction of your eventual benefit. If you had to be pay what your pension is worth (like many private sector workers), you'd have to contribute around 30%.

If the Chinese companies can do it better or cheaper, state-dominated or not - so be it. Economic darwinism MUST prevail.

Is it me or is there perverse in that statement? especially in the context of this thread of how useless the public sector is (always I presume) icon7.gif

I pay £200 per month council tax for a bin collection twice a month and a policeman to drive around my village 1 a month.

Sorry, but civil service should = minimum wage.

    Again, more generalisations.

You pay £200 a month for your bin to be collected and for a policeman to drive around once a month do you?

Right. So. Lets see. How does that policeman drive around? I.e., in what? On what? Does he drive across fields to get around? Does the dustcart just arrive outside your house without using roads and fuel? Do you never go out at night and use any lighting whatsoever. Do you never use a tip? Have you never used a communal building? Never step on a footpath?

As for your civil service stuff. Tell you what, why don't we get rid of it alltogether? I reckon you would be one of the first moaning when your life is effected by it in a way you can't even imagine now.
  • Theres some serious misinformation, generalising and from what I can see, dire attitude problems on this thread.

I've said it before. If the public sector is such a good deal, then stop moaning about it, stop insulting the people working in it, stop telling the people working in it they are lazy and expect everything o be given to them. Then, after you have stopped all that, get off your butt, go out and get a job in the public sector.

Thing is, no one does, because for all the venom they throw at public sector workers, they wouldn't work in the public sector themselves, because they know full well it's not as glorified as they like to make out in their arguments. They know the deal isn't as good as they like to portray.

The public sector is open to all. Everyone can apply. So for all of you complaining of those in it, and talking yet again of their only single perk, the pension, quit your bonuses, quit your crimbo holidays, quit your overtime, quit your company cars, quit your other perks, quit your performance related pay, and join the public sector.

    Fantastic post.. thank you. :T

On the surface yes, but it's amazing what a bit of a worldview does for you Steve.

Chinese state-dominated corporations (much as I abhor them) are run with a ruthless efficiency and intolerance on worker rights and benefits that would make even the most hardened capitalism swoon. No gold-plated pensions or cushy jobs for life for their workers these days.
  • 6% is a fraction of your eventual benefit. If you had to be pay what your pension is worth (like many private sector workers), you'd have to contribute around 30%.

Pressed the wrong button by mistake!

Nope, not convinced. My husband pays less than 6% of his salary and he works in the private sector for GE and will have a good pension. Really, LGPS isn't all that glitters is gold..

Don't forget highways too.. thats forms part of the council tax.

In your defense there was very little to find and I agreed with the sentiment if not the tone.

"I believe there are many in the councils who would struggle in the private sector. Do you disagree?" - Not sure either way I would be basing it on not much evidence.

"Kriss boy does seem to be of the mentality that he wants it all without any risk" -Agree but are his views not typical of around 80% of the population of the UK and not just limited to public sector employees? I work in the private sector and it's just as prevalent there.

"As different industries attract different types of individuals, so councils likewise" Possibly. . . but I don't think that people think " I can't be bothered to do a real job... I know, I'll get a job with the council" No those types of people become MPs

"Why of why do public sector workers have a problem with facts and become so defensive?" Now this definitely applies to 99.9% of the population of the UK. . . .
I don't have to run faster than the bear.....I just need to run faster than you!
