I was at a wedding fayre where the lady charged £3 per cupcake!!!! I thought it was supposed to be the budget option?! I can get a full 3 tier cake for £320 or 180 cupcakes for £540.... wheres the sense?!

That said if people actually pay that I'm sure as heck doing it as well when I start up my dessert making thing from home when we get our house!

Dinah, don't feel mean! I get what you mean, I need to stop being a wuss basically :p

I think I'm just so tempted to stay here because of the potential 'maybe' opportunities. I do quite love doing accounts (as weird as it sounds) so there's always the option of staying here when I'll be paid (hopefully) to go to college then once I've got a degree I'll be able to either progress further into the company, or get another job somewhere else. And I think I'd be alot happier, and a hell of a lot more confident if I did something like that?

ETA: Birdie, you should of told her off! How dare she steal my maybe cupcake shop name. The cheek of some people!

£3 a cupcake?! Are you serious? They only cost about 50p each to make!

I know Cinny I was staggered by it.

And yes politely, that is kind of what I mean. You're holding out for the possibility your family firm might pay for the course, and yet there are a lot of firms out there who run training programmes who will definitely pay for it and sooner rather than later!!!

I just don't get why you are content on a part-time job anyway, I would have thought you'd want the challenge of a full time job, and the freedom of a full time wage. You don't have as much time off, but you enjoy the time off a heck of a lot more, and you can go out and do things all the time you have off instaed of killing time at home in front of the telly or on the computer. That said, I miss time off, I need more of it but thats only because of my stupid number of courses, hobbies, general friends who need seeing and the wedding!

£3 a cupcake? Insane! I looked at one lady who had the lovliest chocolate cake and it was something like £90 for a plain square cake that fed 30 people- but the slices were only 2"x1", what kind of a portion is that? I'd feel mean serving that, I'd want a good slab of it! I think I'll be making cupcakes with MIL!

I suppose if you didn't know how to make them, but you really really loved cupcakes you'd be willing to spend £3 for one.

I'm not content on part time, I think that's part of the problem! I have far too much time on my hands. OH is going to text his main boss man to see if there's anything going for Ladbrokes in my town. Fingers crossed!

I'm going to be harsh for one paragraph - your current job is holding you back. You are a bright, capable young woman working part time for the family company and unable to enjoy life as she is scrimping for every penny. You need to make your own way in the world and be able to afford a holiday cottage for the weekend or a new dress without having to budget for ever to accomodate it. The family firm is not challenging you, and does not value you and you have no job security, you need to take a risk and do something for yourself rather than sticking where you feel safe.

I have to say I agree with Dinah's harsh paragraph Cinny. You would probably do much better outside of the family business. At the age of 18 it is not your job to make it work. That is the job of a managing director, and they are usually on 60k plus.

I think everyone on here is very fond of you and just wants to see you have a nice life with some spare cash to enjoy yourself :)

    Here here CMD.

Do you want to work in Ladbrokes Cinny or are you just wanting to go there as its another job you already know about through your OH? Take this as an oppertunity to apply for things that interest you don't just take another unchallenging job that is safe. If you think you'd enjoy it then fine, but your sister has gone and got a job she wants and you seemto look up to her example, could you not consider getting out there too?

OH wouldn't be there, it's against Ladbrokes rules to work with partners (or something like that) it just looks pretty fun, and the people there are nice. It's just an option really.

Need to have a word with my Dad tonight, I feel like I'm being uber devious just looking at jobs without him knowing. Just need to explain I don't think I'm pushed far enough at the company, and that I need more money. Simples, right?

Aye I think it is simples. I can't remember if NIM said this on here but have you considered that your dad wants to push you a bit into doing what you want and that is a secondary reason for reducing the hours? Most parents want their children to do well, and with the talk of buying and renting out the flat, and moving in with your OH, he might be wanting to give you the push you need to achieve these things.
