mmmmm.... Maybe it's my Digital Camera. It has enabled me to capture some stunning pics on something weighing a little more than a bar of soap, anywhere I am.

I'm happy with my canon G7 camera, I use my second hand sony k850i phone daily to listen my3's, take the odd photo and calls too. Realistically my no1 item is my cheap Logitec £4.70 optical mouse that always works faultless for years now!

WD TV. Brilliant piece if kit. If you have an HD TV and unlimited internet downloads you MUST have this!

I second that, I purchased one earlier this year and it's great. I get to watch the HD TV quality movies and TV progs I download, it plays loads of different types of files and it looks great especially with the Western Digital passport. It's one my favourite gadgets, I found some other media players look too clunky.

  • Hi,

My MSI 16" Dolby Dolby surround Intel core duo 2 3gb laptop.
It was cheap but its the best laptop a had so far!

Dolby surround sound system is amazing and the 16" is quite enough to watch any movie, play games etc.

    Cheers

I use Orange cabs for my guitars, they're about the best you can get and always look pretty good with a dual rec sat on top of them.

oddly - it was seeing the eagles of death metal that converted me  the sound from jesse boots electric was just stunning. Chose the tiny terry combo as I like the switch which allows me to knock it down to 7 watts when I am practicing... just need a band to play with!

Guitar however currently down south getting new emg's, truss rod looked at and the general action is a bit - erm - crap :o but hey ho - it was an ibanez for £70 ;) and otherwise mint condition :D

oh - and adding my macbook pro to the table... i love my main mac dearly. But this is just the right size to show clients footage i have edited together on site - and make adjustments there and then

    iPhone without a doubt.

Things missing from it for me are:
    - ability to stream music through wifi to wireless speakers (you can do it through bluetooth, why not through wireless like iTunes can? :( ).
    - ability to stream images and video (and any other media for that matter, documents etc) wirelessly.
    - wireless syncing. Still don't understand why this isn't possible.
    - better battery life
    - ability to use as a local private wireless hub for a small group of computers. The tech would allow for wifi comms between devices as opposed to using bluetooth
    - a few problems with the software need fixing, like why text messages use just over half of the width of the display

Come to think of it, there's quite a list of things missing and I've only just scratched the surface on things that could be improved. There's no pleasing some people :rotfl:

If "the best techie thing you've bought" (without a doubt) has such a litany of faults and shortcomings - not to mention a weedy 3 MP camera, no flash, no ability to swap in a spare charged battery and no expansion slot - shrewd personal purchasing would not appear to be among your many self-perceived areas of expertise. :)

Given that no other phone on the market currently corrects those "faults", I don't think "shrewd personal purchasing" comes into it, unless you're talking about lacking the foresight to buy a time machine. :p
  • Xbox + XBMC, despite lack of HD support, hands down best media unit.

Squeezebox + Ipod Touch + Ipeng. Besides msuic, having the ability to play anything anywhere in the house and anywhere with ihn wi-fi range is so much fun. Making your own recordings then initiating them on unsuspecting passerby's is hilarious.

Samsung N110 Notebook + LogMeIn, having the ability to fully control any pc/laptop in my house from anywhere in the world, as if I'm sitting infront of it incredibly handy. Also makes great use for security purposes when you set up remote webcams.

    and finally....

My Logitech Harmony 895. Not sure what I'd do without it
