Benefit cheat - but family member - help?

just because she reports it it doesn't mean anything will happen and it could turn out that for proof she go to court, do you think the woman is gonna admit to taking £50? they need proof for anything to actually happen, so if someone was to phone up and report someone for working while claiming benefits but really the person wasn't working at all but the person who reported them done it outta badness as they had a grudge against that person and just wanted to cause trouble, they will need proof for anything to actually happen in court because i can tell ya now they aren't gonna own up.0

I'm finding it hard to see a good side in reporting your SIL1. She may lose a little in benefits but as she was only getting £50 a week from SIL2 that could easily be claimed as expenses for taking care of SIL2's child. SIL2 will then have to find a non-family child-minder to take care of her child - at additional cost and without really knowing how they will treat the child. SIL1 will probably just carry on claiming benefits anyway and you may create a huge rift within your family.

didnt you ever have beans on toast as a child or even spaghetti on toast i did does that mean my parents should have had us removed
No actually - and it wasn't until I was about 14 I even realised spaghetti could be bought in a tin (yuck yuck yuck!) And it wasn't until in the last few years I first had baked beans either. Baked beans however I have been told have SOME nutricious (sp?) benefits - I'm not sure which
Having an occissional til of rubbish - fine - bringing your child up on a diet of tinned spaghetti... I never said it meant they should have the children removed (but thanks for putting words in my mouth) - I do hwoever think it should bring into question the suitability of her to mind other peoples children (or in my view her own!) - It doesn't take much to cook from scratch and freeze things - it can even work out cheaper. But I guess it would mean getting off her backside:rolleyes:

I love tinned spaghetti on toast as does my grandchild all things in moderation as they say and I am far from obese in fact I am the same size now as I was when I was 18 and I am now in my 50's .My granddaughter also very slim and active .
I was always told a little of what you fancy does no harm at all and if I want spaghetti on toast I shall continue to enjoy it ,I do eat it with wholemeal bread and a glass of milk or fruit juice ,mind you I do give my granddaughter ham on her sandwiches maybe some one should call in social services .
I think there is a world of difference between a grown adult having spaghetti on toast once in a while and an otherwise sensible diet - I'd say milk, fruitjuice and wholemeal bread indicates that you have a jolly good idea about sensible eating
And regularly feeding children tinned spaghetti for breakfast...
I agree a little in moderation probably does no harm - but to bring a child up on tinned spaghetti as a diet staple? I'm sure that no-one actually thinks that is a healthy diet?
As for spaghetti in a tin... I think I'd still say thanks but no thanks but that's an entirely different debate :rotfl:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Reporting the SIL will push the OP out of the family and cause all sorts of hassle.Barclaycard 3800

do u ever sit down and think though that when these people r reported and it goes to court who pays for the court and the legal aid? so while trying to save the country what ever job seekers is a week about £60 £67 i'm not sure how much it is will eventually cost more with the courts and legal people doing the best out of it, needless to say as i said earlier the person is still gonna be on benefits as they need money to live on and will pay back whatever amount in small payments each week out of there benefit, yes when u add it all up i'm sure there is quite a few people getting a bit extra, but aren't they gonna be spending the money anyway so they'll be paying taxes on say there alcohol and cigs. and also if the OP does go and report this on the sly do you not think the person is gonna deny it. so she could be called to give evidence if it where to go to court.
What an odd way of looking at things
Personally I think that anyone cheating the benefit system should be reported and taken through the courts however expensive that will be. It doesn't matter what it costs what it does is act as a deterrent to others who seem to think that this sort of thing is acceptable. If cheating and lying was not tolerated and people were made to feel embarrassed when they got caught maybe people would stop cheating and overall we would all save money.
Out of interest when does it become acceptable to lie and cheat? Is it OK if you are poor, what about if you have a big house but still claim housing benefit on a London flat (and I knew someone who did this) because that's where all your friends were and you can rent out your 4 bed house for oodles of money and not have to bother working.
I am hard line on this and truly cannot believe that people think it is acceptable. I would rather my taxes went where it was needed to people who really did need more to survive.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I read this thread yesterday and most of what i thought had already been said.
But having had a think about it and my life i thought i would post this!
Im a single mum of 2 children DD1 is 4 (due to start full time school next month) and DD2 is 3 and due to start a part time nursery placement next month, i am in receipt of income support ~ and not to annoy anybody but i live quite comfortably!!! Not through any other reason other than being to handle my finances well, i dont have any debt. For big items that are needed i rely heavily on freecycle which has saved me an absolute fortune!!
If i wasnt pregnant with baby no3 due on xmas day  then i would be going back to work when my girls are not at home with me.
Not on benefits out of choice i left a violent ex partner (before anybody decides to shoot me down in flames for having a baby whilst on benefits!)
I look after a friends 2 children on a regular basis by regular i mean the same times each week, I have both of her children on a thursday afternoon, and i have their eldest from appprox 5pm on a Saturday through to 4.30pm on the Sunday whilst their mum works, i dont get paid for it and would never in a million years ask for payment neither. I do this as mum is out working and so is her partner they are saving for the deposit to put down on a privatly rented property to enable them to move out of their 2bed flat in a high rise block to something much better for them and the kids with a garden.
To any friends that ask they are told that they are paying me to have them! Why? The main reason is because i dont want to see people as seeing me as providing free childcare!! I already have one friend who im quite sure is taking the pee out of me when it comes to asking me to look after her kids 4 or 5 times a week even if it is only for an hour or 2 at a time!! I really dont fancy being taken for a mug anymoreSo if i tell people they are paying me to look after them it then stops them from asking me to look after their children IYSWIM.
Im not so sure this is the same as the case of the OP but it might be worth remembering that what you know might not necessarily be what is happening.
I have and would again report people that i knew of benefit fraud no matter who they are, if they cant survive on the money they are getting from the government then maybe they should get off their !!!! and get a job rather than commiting fraud.0 -

I can see why you would say this. Some people are very good at taking advantage of friends! I think the OP's case is a bit different because she knows both the women involved and both say money is changing hands.
I think I would turn a blind eye to someone on benefits getting a one-off payment for something because living on benefits is not easy but when people are earning every week, they should not be claiming means-tested benefits. This woman "looks after" another child all week - although the quality of the care is questionable - so there is nothing to stop her doing it as a job and coming off benefits. She needs to chose between benefits and work - not do both!0 -
I would report my own mother if I thought she was guilty of benefit fraud (not that she would). And I wouldn't be ashamed to admit it to her face. She would be glad that she had instilled some common decency into me. Benefit Fraud is theft and I do not appreciate working my butt off to fund people who think the world owes them a living.0

I agree with you completly!! I only posted as some of the other posts on here about reporting people although i would agree with it!! It may be the case of they dont always know the full story! The area that i now live in is actually very well known to be full of busybodies who wouldnt think twice about reporting something they didnt think was right and to an extent i dont blame them however in some cases it isnt how it appears to be0
