This reminds me of when I brought a matress before the end of catalogue sale started. I placed the order a day BEFORE the sale and the item was reduced by £30. After asking Argos if they'd refund the difference, they didn't initially but I told them I'll return the mattress anyway so they sent out a cheque as a gesture of goodwill.

As for a PS3, it's exempt from the 30-day money back thing so I wouldn't know. Sabotaging the console? Hmm..

The way I got them to budge (Before my computer issues and I never got the cheque) was "I am going to return every little think I have bought from Argos seeing as I just moved into my new home and almost half of all the stuff in my home is from argos". They replied within 1 hours :p

OP be strong and make sure you get your point across.

I would suggest contacting them online, Easier!

When they say something like "this is a promotion offer between us a playstation and new stock" say that it was only X amount of days difference and if that stock never got sold then I would be buying all stock for the discounted price, So I don't see what the issue is.

Thanks to everyone for replying to this, I have not had chance to log back in til this morning. I guess it is tough luck and i should have done my homework. I not a techie so dont check the net for when new verisons of consoles are due out. We have been saving for ages to buy this ps3 and i just feel cheated. The buying team at argos must have known before tis week that the new version is due out 1st Sept. The kids love it so next i know better to check online first for new versions of technology. Thanks again to all who have taken their time to comment. I wasn't sure if anyone would respond. What a good site for info. ssingh1979
if it had gone up to £500 would you have brought in the difference?

Do some research before you shell out next time. It's no secret that the newer, cheaper model is being released

Have you not read his second post? People already said all that, and then he came back and agreed to do his research next time. No need to keep on at him!

Also spoke to head office customer services who told me "it was my choice to buy at £325.00" and basically tuff luck that a higher spec, better looking, more powerful and cheaper new version is out in a few days!

The machine is not higher spec (just a bigger hard drive, quieter fan, power usage), opinion of it being better looking, it is not more powerful (just offers bitstreaming for TrueHD).

I can sympathise. There was a lot of talk brewing of a new model, but sadly the price of tech comes down on a daily basis. A £3,000 PC I bought just a few months ago is already worth much less than now.

OP - you have zero rights. Get over it.

As for the c hav suggestions - whether implied or otherwise - of wrecking the console and taking it back, yes it is a criminal offense and absolutely carp advice.

As others have suggested, OP should have done some (fairly basic) research and realised that a new model was in the offing. Failing to do so was not the fault of Argos.

Think you will find he 'got over it' earlier today if you bothered to read the posts.

Keep in mind that store managers don't dictate what Argos will stock and how they will price it. I used to work there, and we would only really find out what was coming into the catalogue (and what was being removed) when it was delivered. It's not like the head office consults all the stores individually, and neither do all the staff know intimately what's happening to the price of however many thousands of products are stocked. So don't sit there thinking they were all laughing at you as you handed over your cash. If they weren't gamers and aware of the new model coming out, they may not have had any idea that it was the wrong time to buy it. Just bad luck on your part. Not a scam, not a con, not a rip off.
  • Not entirely true... I often knew about promotions up to a week in advance. As for new items (especially consoles) we'd have a fair idea when they are being released and a rough idea of how many the store was getting.
We weren't supposed to tell customers of upcoming promotions, but i used to if there was no one else around :-)

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

You idiots - can you not see that your posts with your completely unnecessary defence of the OP keep this thread at the top of the board? Then people read the OP, don't read the responses and post their replies. And why not? So the OP has decided what to do - when someone posts on an Internet Forum other people are perfectly entitled to respond - even when the OP has decided the matter is closed.

The quickest way for a thread to die is to stop posting on it.
