The health hazards of smoking - or even what is called 'passive smoking' - are NOT proved.

What amazing and overwhelming ignorance and denial.

Really? Can you cite proof of that rather than just gut reaction?

I used to be a smoker and I have to say I am really impressed with how most smokers have just got on with the ban and go outside for their fix.

Like everything else, there is always a minority though who spoil it for others and I DETEST seeing fag ends thrown outside buildings, often smouldering away. Likewise cig packets etc. There is just no need for it at all. Why can't smokers just carry those little portable ashtrays?

I have to say I have not been too bothered by people blowing smoke my way because I can 99.9% of the time spot a person who smokes (even if they're not doing so) and I avoid sitting near them. They are usually restless and look quite stressed and twitchy. ;)

On the odd occasion I do find myself beside a smoker, I would never wave my arms about or hold my nose but I have to say I do get this wonderful feeling that I am no longer addicted and I'm just so pleased with myself that I gave up. :j

I feel precisely the same about any rubbish thrown in the street. I live in a conservation area which is really beautiful. But every weekend visitors come and leave bottles,
packages from Macdonalds, dog mess and shattered glass on the road. Almost as bad as cigarette packets don't you think?

This is my point - discrimination against smokers - allowed by the by legal ban in some places - make their rubbish unlawful. BUT, the instances I have cited are not. Why not? because they are not subject to a lawful ban even though they desecrate our countryside.
  • I work in an open plan office and several of our staff go outside to have what they call a fag break - they have to blick out i hasten to add yet go out on the hour every hour. I have never smoked and absolutely hate the smell and dont want to be any where near anyone smoking.

My point however is 1 of our Managers who regularly walks up and down our office and other office staff who sit near me, stink of a smelly ashtray. Their clothes stink there hair stinks and overall it is very unpleasant. It gets so bad that I can come home from work and I smell of smoke. I think it is disgusting that we have to put up with this, can these people not actually smell themselves, god knows what their breath smells like.

Probably, but they'll have a far inferior sense of smell: http://zebra.sc.edu/smell/ann/myth7.html

Interesting reading there however surely someone who chain smokes and stinks of smoke who is with a non smoking partner would get some type of aggro from their partner as I couldnt put up with the smell my workmates let off especially if i was in bed with them. When the Manager walks down the office he leaves a strong bad smoke aroma in our office for at least 20 minutes and we have no windows we can open. we know as soon as he walks in he is coming.

I have the same situation with a women at work who shares my office. She has a fag break every hour then comes in and sprays herself with perfume to try and mask the smell! Do smokers have idea idea how bad they smell? Also this women at work goes outside every hour for around 5-7 mins at a time, so in the course of a day she spends approx 1 hour on fag breaks!
