never been a smoker or even tried and 1000% agree with you!
  • Heya, I must say that I dont mind people smoking outside, that is their right! What I do mind is the people in crowds or even just pushing past when walking who hold their lit cigarette down by their side in between inhaling it; right at the level of my toddlers face!! he's come so close to being burnt by inconsiderate people.

The pub garden is ours now - we put the hours in out there in the rain and the wind. We were pushed out there, don't get anoyed when we smoke.

Don't get me wrong - I wont smoke in a bus shelter or walk down the street and smoke if I can help it. However, if people are sat in the area designanted now for smokers and get offended...I have no sympathy.

    Hi,
A major vent from me, I am an ex smoker, gave up in June 2006 and I am so glad that all the new laws have come in but I don't think it goes far enough.
I am totally fed up of walking along and some smoker standing there having a cig then blowing the smoke right into my face as I pass them or am stuck walking behind or they are walking towards me, why should I have smoke blown towards me or even in my direction to have to inhale?!!??
I choose not to smoke, they choose to smoke so I don't think I should be forced to!

    Grrrr

I'm also an ex smoker and I feel sorry for the poor marginalised smoker.

Has it occured to you that the smoke blows in your face partly due to wind direction? There aren't that many smokers that deliberately blow it in your face.

I'd like to sue the public transport company....I was walking through town and 5 buses drove past and blew their exhaust fumes in my face. It was just disgusting.

Then I'd like to sue whoever it was the farted in the bar I was in last weekend because it was rank!

I'd also like to sue the man who was sat in front of me wearing too much Old Spice which caused me to start sneezing.

Then I'd like to sue my neighbour who owns cats and allows them to foul in everyone elses yard.

Oh and just to end it all I'd like to sue my husband for his rotten morning breath which not only makes me nauseous but also causes severe emotional distress at 8am.

It's not illegal to smoke (yet) and the outdoor, free air is for everyone so until you can persuade the government to ban smoking altogether, you may get over it.
  • I have to say that I completely object to inhaling other peoples smoke - it can be near impossible avoiding it whilst walking down the street.

If it were up to me I'd ban smoking to peoples private homes/designated smoking shelters or rooms.

Before all the smokers get mad please bear this in mind - if you want to pollute your body and dramatically increase your risk of cancer then so be it - it's your body and do what you will with it.

However, I choose NOT TO SMOKE and I also have the right to do what I want with my body - which involves NOT PASSIVE SMOKING.

ps - I have never tried smoking as I think its pointless and stupid.

EDIT - as an aside my own personal rant is aimed at my neighbours who don't smoke in their flats but stand outside and then leave their cigarettes on the ground. The entrance to my close is a disgrace - littered with cigarette butts which I think is disgusting. [/QUOTE]

I've highlighted this as my neighbours do the same, actually it's slightly worse as they throw them on to our property, making the front of our house look a mess.

My biggest bug bear with smokers is those that light up right next to me when they can clearly see I am pregnant (I'm huge!), and have a toddler in the pushchair with me. They could bit more considerate and light up a little further away. Not only did I choose not to smoke, my child and soon to be born child don't want to smoke either thank you.

As an anti smoker, although I might go out of my way or pick up speed to avoid a smoker, I don't think I get as angry as the OP... My personal bugbear is people who smoke at cashpoints, stinking up the buttons and the area.

Personally I think non-smokers have never had it so good.

My dad's a rabid anti smoker. As a result, we got to eat out as a family about 10 times, tops, because my dad refused to go anywhere smoky.

I am a smoker. I DO NOT smoke where people find it offensive. I would not dream of smoking in a house where people do not smoke.

HOWEVER I am becoming extremely frustrated by the unreasonable and discriminating behaviour of the holier-than-thou non or 'reformed' smokers. The health hazards of smoking - or even what is called 'passive smoking' - are NOT proved. I feel that my minority is as much discriminated against as other minorities - racial, sexual et al.

I am, for one, completely fed up with this. I find the noise emanating from cars playing pop music at unreasonable decibels offensive. I find screaming infants in supermarkets offensive. I find the disgusting language used by many youngsters in the street offensive. Do I wish laws to be imposed against these? No I do not. Because people are supposed to be able to live their lives untarnished by these unpleasant aspects of behaviour. BUT it is MY responsibility to avoid these things not to expect laws to be imposed to outlaw them.

We have become a nation of pathetic bigots ruled by a nanny state which takes away from us most of our rights to live the way we wish without offending others.
