I am sure that any individual could say something similar. What I am trying to point out is that there are many things other people find as offensive as smoking. However, there are no laws to suppress them and I would not wish there to be.

I just wish the government had put as much effort into policing our streets and making it safe to go out for a walk/go anywhere without the fear of violence

Would you rather catch a whiff of tobacco or be dragged from your bicycle and left for dead as that poor unfortunate cyclist?

It may be offensive/ detrimental to non smokers but I still don't think it deserved quite so much focus.

You cannot smoke outside a hospital but you can get MRSA and die while you are in it!

    Hi,
A major vent from me, I am an ex smoker, gave up in June 2006 and I am so glad that all the new laws have come in but I don't think it goes far enough.
I am totally fed up of walking along and some smoker standing there having a cig then blowing the smoke right into my face as I pass them or am stuck walking behind or they are walking towards me, why should I have smoke blown towards me or even in my direction to have to inhale?!!??
I choose not to smoke, they choose to smoke so I don't think I should be forced to!

    Grrrr

If you don't look straight at them, they won't be able to blow it straight in your face! :p
    Gone ... or have I?

As an anti smoker, although I might go out of my way or pick up speed to avoid a smoker, I don't think I get as angry as the OP... My personal bugbear is people who smoke at cashpoints, stinking up the buttons and the area.

Personally I think non-smokers have never had it so good.

My dad's a rabid anti smoker. As a result, we got to eat out as a family about 10 times, tops, because my dad refused to go anywhere smoky.

Remember those days when you'd go out for a meal, and would just be starting on your main course whilst the people at the next table got on to their coffee and lit up? And they'd always extend their smoking arm as far away from themselves and as close to you as possible?
To the person who described passive smoking as "cobblers" - I know someone who killed his wife because he refused to give up his cigar habit.

It seems the reformed smokers are the most biggoted. !!!!!! get real, the poor smokers have it pretty tough.

:A I have never smoked:A but live and let die if that is their choice
think this is what people are referring to it can kill those of us who dont wish to smoke and inhaling others smoke can make illnesses worse.. ie asthma
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,

And is there a problem in providing smoking and non-smoking rooms in restaurants? I don't think so. I am sure many restaurateurs would welcome being able to do so considering the huge loss of revenue they have suffered since the non-smoking ban came in.

Surely it should be possible to supply areas for people of different persuasions without imposing a blanket ban? That would be really reasonable though and there is little that IS reasonable with a ban rather than a thought-out strategy.

I wonder what the result would be if people of a racial or sexual minority were banned from eating in a restaurant?

This thread is a bit intense, I think I need a ciggie to calm me down, but do I blow the smoke at the OP or not:D:D:D
