How long were you together before getting Engaged?

I always wonder, when hearing of people getting married after living together first.

On my wedding day, as I walked from my parents house to the wedding car. I looked back at the house and thought - I will no longer be living there anymore. From now on I'll be living with my (about to be) husband in our new house. My life will be changed forever.
It was a magical moment.

Surely, that magic is not there when you've already lived together for, sometimes, several years.

Both my sons lived with their - now wives - before marrying and both sons came to our house to spend their pre wedding night. Bit silly I always thought.

i had been with o/h for just over 2 years when we got engaged, been another two years since then and weddings in just under 40 weeks

Was friends for three years, dated for 3 1/2 years, been engaged 5 months, getting married in 4 months.

No proposal, was more of a discussion on a romantic meal "night" out between the pair of us as he isn't the proposing type. If it didn't happen like that it wasn't going to happen any other way I know now! I feel like I've really missed out on the whole romantic proposal thingy but hey ho, can't have everything can you? Resent him a bit for not letting me have my special moment but ce la vie.

i met my hubby on 21st may 2001. we got engaged 16th september 2001 and got married 16th july 2002. It has worked perfectly for us we both love being married.It is wonderful.

me and my partner talked about getting engaged a year after getting together but almost 16 years later we still talking bout it lol

Together 9 years before we got engaged then another 6 before we got married. Just coming up to our 4th wedding anniversary but 19th since we met. The day we met and our wedding anniversary are on the same day.

Got together Dec 1999, Engaged June 2000 (my 17th birthday)

Still engaged now! Will get married eventually but we are happy as we are for now!

Chatted online from April 2004, then texting and talking on phone for hours, met for real 28 July 2004, without having seen photos of each other, he moved in 6 weeks later, I was 33, he was 26. Got engaged 28 Ocotober 2006. No wedding plans yet, can't rush these things!

Been together 7 and a half years currently trying for baby number 1 :rolleyes: but no engagement, both happy with that arrangement!:D
