I'm so sorry for your loss, having a pet go suddenly at such a young age almost makes you feel robbed. You've some fantastic memories there to help you through the heartbreak though.Turn £100 into £10,000 in 2010 member # 247

So sorry to hear about your little one. Im a dog person myself but I can still understand how you must feel. I lost my oldest dog in January and still miss her and cry about her - she was so special.
Just a little story about something that happened to us:
Just after last Christmas one night we were driving away from my SIL's house (she has cats herself) and we saw a poor little cat in the middle of the road. The car that had just run it over was still there and one of the lads from the car just dragged the cat out of our way so that we could continue! They then drove off! The poor thing was in a bad way and all I could think of was the poor owner of this cat and how the little thing would just suffer lying by the road all night (it was very cold) so we drove back to my SIL's house and my BIL got a big towel and came back with us to get the cat.
He gathered it up and took it home. He thought the cat was past saving but saw that there was a name and address on its collar and rang the owner. A man arrived and he was in floods of tears. He was foreign and kept saying "thank you thank you" for rescuing his cat and not leaving it in the road. They managed to find an emergency vet and, after very expensive treatment and an operation, the cat made a fully recovery, although it lost an eye. They owners were so grateful that they took round a bottle of wine and chocolates to my SIL's house and also a couple of weeks ago brought her a replacement towel!
Im so glad that we chose to leave my SIL's house just at that moment in time. If we had left sooner before the cat was run over then it definitely would just have been left by the side of the road and wouldn't have survived the night. It was under a year old too, so only a youngster.
(My SIL originally rang the RSPCA but couldn't get through to anyone. Typical if you ask me.)0 -
Thanks everyone that responded.
I've just taken a couple of asprin because I've a headache which I think came from dehydration from crying. I'm less blubbery now - it was just such a hell of a shock. It's weird, the house seems empty and quiet and the reason that's weird is because normally at this time he'd be asleep upstairs and I wouldn't see him anyway. It's just I know I won't see him again.
We don't cherish people and pets enough - we take them for granted. Things can be taken from us very suddenly. I realised I'd been very 'sharp' with the dog this morning while all this was going on. Now I've fussed him. He's very quiet in his basket. Maybe he picked up on my vibes.
I'll be fine. I've lost dogs before. It just takes a while before the 'missing' piece of your life fades. Poor Ziggy is 'at rest' in the garden. He was a happy and loved little chap. I'm sure he knew that. Like that old expression says ''you never know what you've got till it's gone''. Thanks for all the hugs.0 -
These things take time, you may have had him a short time but that doesn't make it any easier and is so tragic the way he went, it sounds like it was quick which is something
Pets as you say are often taken for granted, for me a pet is a family member as it is for a lot of people they bring so much joy and are a real tonic to relieve stress and anxiety.
I hope one day you can find a replacement obviously when you feel up to it. I actually found another cat when mine sadly died soon afterwards, the pain does go but you never stop missing them.0 -
