the one I'm on now, everybody seems to complain about everyone else behind their backs. Today I hear from a colleague that another person has been callin me slow, and that i can't handle the work.

I really am stressed about this kinda stuff

:( That sounds pretty horrible. They just seem to be picking on you for no reason. Just be strong and don't let them know they are getting to you, as it sounds like that is what they want. If it gets any worse you should make a complaint.

If i were you i would be looking for a new job also. Its not good spending so much time in an environment like that.

The worst job wasnt due to the actual work which was terminally dull but due to the location, that was downwind from a factory that processed meat, you know the good stuff that ends up in cheap sausages and burgers, where they jet washed carcasses, and filtered what was run off.
The smell just made you want to gag, the plus side I saved a fortune on buying lunches.

From there I moved to the council, which was located between a sewage farm and a popcorn factory, what a bizarre combination of smells that was, and again saved money on lunches.

A couple of years ago I got a new job in an accounts department. Easy enough job and very well paid. It was a huge open plan office with about 20 people.

Throughout my first morning I noticed it was really quiet. Nobody had spoken and they weren't even answering the phones just letting them ring. I went to the staff room at lunch time and everyone there was either reading or staring into space absolutley zero conversation.

Spent the afternoon feeling a little freaked out. Still not a word spoken by anyone. By the end of the day I decided there was no way I could go back. I had been placed there by an agency so I called them when I left and they told me I was the third person they had tried to place there, one girl had only made it to lunch time on her first day.

It had been one of the longest days of my life and I didn't even get paid!

In a petshop I once worked in, I had to clean the fish tanks and to get the sunction pump working (ie, to pump the dirty water from the tank into a bucket) you had to suck it (clean minds please) and you got the taste of the tank into your mouth

My ex used to work in an aquarium in oxford and he did the exact same! Then he used to go barmy at me when i refused to snog him when he got home from work - yuck!

My worst job was working on a farm - picking up dead chickens is NOT my dream job
  • My worst job was a part time one in retail I got for Saturday mornings. I worked full time during the week as a surveyor but got this one to help pay the mortgage after my ex left.

I HATED the job! The bosses were bullies, always putting the staff down and shouting. I found myself becoming a different person when I went there...during the week in my 'proper' job I was outgoing and confident...but in this place I was withdrawn and nervous. After about 6 months I snapped one day when the boss was really nasty to me infront of a customer and at the end of my shift I politely told her I didn't think things were working out and that I was leaving. She said she thought I was a 'bit slow' and that she'd only kept me on as she felt sorry for me!!! I cried the whole way home with the shame of it....

Sounds like your boss really wasnt happy in herself or her job...thats why she took it out on people like you. She was probably just jealous of you also.

This thread has been really interesting to read and reminded me of my worst job (i tried to forget it!!)
I worked in a newsagents when i was 15 years old and i use to get paid 1.50 per hour and god they made me work for it! I use to do 4 nights after school for 5 hours a time (which i believe is illegal!) The owners had me doing everything whilst she would sit in the back having cups of tea! I use to be rushed off my feet, manning the till, stocking the shelves and cleaning. I hated it and was constantly knackered. I did this for about 6 months when they had to let me go so her teenage daughter could have my job! I was glad to get away and think they really took advantage of me.

I had a saturday job in a small family run shoe shop, the owners had very kindly supplied one stool in the office, an outside loo and a sink. Other than lunchtime I was never allowed to sit down. We had barely any customers (grannies wanting slippers) so I stood dusting shoes and counting wellies for 7.5 hours.

I also had work experience in a dog kennels were I spent the majority of the time scrubbing dog crap from concrete walls and floors. The noise and smell of the doggy poo bins will stay with me forever.
  • Checkout assistant at a supermarket (part of a national chain). Eight hours of 'bip... bip... bip', every Saturday and Sunday and almost every day of holidays from college for the best part of two years. I nearly lost the will to live on several occasions.

It hasn't put me off retail as such but I don't think I'd ever go back to that specific type of job again. Even shelf stacking involves going to different bits of the shop and stacking different things!
