I did fruit/vegetable packing whilst travelling last year. Up at 4.30am, worked for 12 hours. I lasted two days.
I kept getting told off because I was sorting the peppers wrong....putting medium-large ones in the box for medium!0 -

Oh god, that sounds like hell.... 12 hour days and up at 4:30! I could not do that!! Travelling would be good though. I always wanted to go travelling but just could never afford it or find anyone to go with...all my friends are happy settled types"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
My first job- I was 16 working for minimum wage for the worst people ever. It was a local supermarket, but not one of those nationwide ones just a family run one.
I got shouted at for everything i did, i was actually reduced to tears in front of customers for asking the owner who was training me to open a penny bag whilst i carried on serving the queue seeing as he was just standing there. I didnt go back after that.
Gosh i hate that man.0 -
Couple of years ago I got a job with a small local security company. I had spent the previous 20 years working for ADT & Chubb. I knew the two owners, in fact one of them was my daughters godfather, although in his words we had lost touch(although funny how we "lost touch" when my oh fell seriously ill).
Didn't get the job because I knew them, it was through an agency. Used to live near the other one , and the other consultant was someone who I had worked with 20 years ago. I thought this is good, not like I don't know them and they don't know me.
What a bunch of t*****S. Bearing in mind I have been in the industry for over 25 years, from installation engineer to consultant, they were paranoid about anyone ripping them off. Didn't trust anyone, and expected you in the office before 8am and if you dared to leave before 5pm, although contracted to 37 hours per week, god you were the pits.
Three months of my life which I will never get back. If Karma exists then these bar stewards will get theirs as soon as. Three people whi=o I still wish every ill the world can supply, and a plague on all they hold precious, which probably isn't much more than their bank accounts. If they were on fire at the side of the road I wouldn't waste my p**s on them. In fact I would willingly go and buy some petrol to pour over the f*****S.
Me bitter? NEVER!
The job I am in now, after telling them to stuff theirs where the sun doesn't shine, is the best job I have ever had in 36 years of continous employment. If it lasts until I retire, and bearing in mind we have a crap labour mis - government I may be 120 before I can actually retire, then I will be a very happy man.0 -
Where do I start?? :rotfl:
First job was a Saturday job in a bakery. Got £12 a day for working from 7am til 6pm, had a witch of a boss who insisted we serve stale bread and frozen apple tarts as fresh, refused to let us talk to each other at all the whole day and shouted at us for anything that took her fancy.
Left there to get a better job.....in Burger King! Counting all those burgers and baps and boxes of salad at the end of the night, scrubbing, mopping and dry mopping the floors, clearing tables that people had left in a really disgusting mess and at the end of it all the manager saying it wasn't good enough and start again!!
In between have had a few OK ones, bar waitress in a hotel, shop assistant, care assistant and now I have the pleasure of being an NHS nurse....oh the joys!! :rotfl:;)0 -
Working as a chambermaid in a B&B where I had to 'spray and iron' the sheets, not good, especially for the people who had to sleep in the beds.;)0

the one I'm on now, everybody seems to complain about everyone else behind their backs. Today I hear from a colleague that another person has been callin me slow, and that i can't handle the work.
I really am stressed about this kinda stuff0 -
My worst job was picking crab claws to get the cooked meat out of them. After 8 hours i used to come out stinking. The smell just used to linger on you, you could scrub yourself for hours and you could still smell it.
needless to say i didnt get any loving from the mrs whilst i had the job :-( thankfully it was only 3 months.
the best part was you got paid per lb picked, around £3 per lb, i used to do 4 per hour :-) if i could have put up with the smell i would still be doing it to this day.
but the smell and lack of lady love made me drop it sharpish0 -

My hub has had some crackers!
We joke he his trying to get some sort of record for food related jobs....milkman, in a bakery, in a meat factory then a tea factory...I said if he ever makes candlesticks I'm leaving!!
The meat factory was the worst, he used to STINK coming home, like an old blood smell, then they started doing 'spiced meats' with various herbs and spices which made it even harder to stomach!
The tea factory was OK until he moved to the bit that did the herbal teas...I was pregnant at the time and suffering with the sickness, he had to come home and straight into the shower as the smells just clung to him.0 -
Worst job working at the Spar on an Army camp, hated the job, didnt mind the people I worked with and for the most part had a laugh with the customers but I still have nightmares about shelf stacking and fronting up - despite it having been the type of thing I had to do in my bar jobs and in the shop I work at now. It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.
