Worst job you have ever had??

In a petshop I once worked in, I had to clean the fish tanks and to get the sunction pump working (ie, to pump the dirty water from the tank into a bucket) you had to suck it (clean minds please) and you got the taste of the tank into your mouth (bearing in mind the tank has fish poo and likewise in it and tasted gross).
My leave favourite task in my current job is sorting out the cardboard and putting it into the bins, they sometimes reek of rotting food (not from us) and make me feel kinda ill.

...couldn't you just use a suction device or was that out of service at that time?0

Customer Assistant in Tesco, and Customer Assistant in Babies'r'us at Toys'r us. Hated every minute of both jobs. I'd be crying some nights, thinking about going in the next day. The Toys'r'us job was 1p above minimum wage, which made it worse. Why bother with 1p more, that's just so they can say they pay more than min wage. Hated talking to the customers, they'd be so rude sometimes. And some of the other members of staff were so lazy and useless! I'm just really not suited to retail I think!0

I can't say that I have had a job that I didn't enjoy, but I have had some pretty awful bosses.
In my first 'proper' job, my boss had a habit of giving me ten minutes of his work to do five minutes before the end of the day. He knew that this made me miss my train, yet refused to do it himself because it would make him late home (albeit only five mins compared to my hour, as he drove to work).
I decided to give in my notice on Christmas Eve. As soon as I was in I went to the big boss and said I would not be returning after Christmas. I was then told that my immediate manager would be late in that day ... because his car had been stolen, so he had had to catch the train!
Karma anyone?!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Nope, it was just manual type thing. I can't describe it that well as you have probably guessed :rotfl:The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -

Ugh.
You actually had to suck the pump? Oh god...i wouldnt fancy doing that. Knowing my luck i would get a mouth full of dirty fish water! When i was young (about 6 or so) i used to dream about owning my own pet shop full of animals. Animals that i probably would like too much to sell haha."You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
Only the once per tank to get the pump actually working otherwise it doesn't work.
I remember doing it after my first day back after Christmas. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0 -
One of my first jobs (many years ago!) was working as a chambermaid at a local hotel. I won't go into the details of what I used to have to clear up!Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

dmg24...i have had some awful bosses too. I mostly was a waitress in school and uni (as i have already mentioned) and my first ever job at 16 was as a waitress for a coffee shop. I got paid something rubbish like 20 quid for an 8 hour shift with one 10 minute break (cash in hand).
I did get a lot of tips, sometimes up to 30 pounds (on a very good day!)...which would have been nice but the little old lady who owned the place (my boss) sat at the till watching us. All the waitresses had to put their tips into a jar (otherwise told off/sacked) At the end of the year, all the tips would be turned into vouchers and she would keep them and use them to pay for her family's luxury Christmas!!! It was okay though...i got a Christmas card with a cheap selection box as my 'bonus'!!!"You dont need a weather man to know which way the wind blows"0 -
at the moment, I would have to say my current one too! It's a made up job, I have barely anything to do. Sounds like some people's idea of heaven, especially given that it's very well paid for what it is, but I can't get away with actively not working, so no reading a book etc, and can't browse the internet because it's 95% locked down!
God that sounds exactly like where I used to work (except the very well paid bit!) I didn't keep quiet about the lack of work though, hence why i'm no longer there!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
