or drive 45 miles to glasgow and the apple store there. which is actually quicker then above... Opted for the lazy way :P

I am yet to purchase Snow Leopard but will do so in the next week or so.
To all the people who have already installed - did you do a full system backup before hand just in case?
I use Time Machine to do backups to an external hard driver (500gb). I was recommended to use a programme called "Superduper" by a colleague before installing Snow Leopard as it backs up all applications etc. However, when I ran superduper the other night with my external HD attached it informed me it would delete all Time Machine backups (1+ years worth). Not worth it. So does that mean I have to buy ANOTHER external HD for superduper? This gets expensive and leads me into "backup of a backup of a backup...." scenario.
Or do I bite the bullet and install as it and hope for the best. I have all my time machine backups anyway.....0 -
I installed Snow Leopard on Saturday, I was running Tiger previously so completely skipped Leopard altogether.
I'm pleased to report no problems at all, its faster, I LOVE having the date in the top of the bar and the fact that ical actually displays the date now without opening it. Start up and shut down times are rapid.
I've had no issues so far with programs I'm running, CS3 was a little glitchy through Photoshop, but I had been putting off installing CS4 anyway so took the opportunity to do it and that works fine as well.
Time Machine seems to be doing what its told, but any issues arising from that dont worry me so much as I back up all Uni work etc to the external drive manually the moment I save it on the machine. (having seen a Uni friend lose 12 months work because she didnt back up got me into that habit quite swiftly!!)
When i installed SL I did a disk restore to the external drive first as recommended here, I then restored back to the Mac from the external drive and it preserved every program for me, even thoughtfully putting my wallpaper back0 -

It's worth storing a backup copy on your iDisk, too, if you have a DotMac/MobileMe account.
I also have a "Work in Progress" folder on my iDisk. I put a spare copy of things that are current into that and can then pull them out, add to them, and put them back again, on whatever Mac I'm using, wherever (in the house, or in the world) I am. Works well.
Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:
As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

Thanks guys. I usually do make another backup onto a DVD, probably once a month when I'm working on Uni stuff. Sometimes makes it easier for me to locate things when I can go through the disks month by month and project by project.
I dont have a mobile me account, I saw the new addition when I installed SL, but not really knowing a great deal about it and its interaction with my iphone I left it well alone.. (my iphone is jailbroken and I didn't want another disaster this week)

If you've never signed up for one, I think you can get a 60-day trial of MobileMe. It would let you use iDisk at least for the purpose of backup, even if you don't use it long-term.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
