I hear that Mac are updating their OS to Snow Leopard. On the UK site there is no pricing information, but on the US they are offering an upgrade for existing users for $29. The UK site also hides it away whereas it is fairly prominent in the US site. Does anyone know if we are getting a similar deal here in the UK.
Thanks
Thanks

The rumours I've read suggest the upgrade for Leopard users will be about £19 in the UK, in line with the US price. There hasn't been any confirmation of that yet though.
It's a great deal.0 -
We bought a mac mini in June but just missed out on the offer where you can upgrade for £7- That offer is for July models and newer
Not heard about anything else so will be grateful if anyone knows any different0 -

The upgrade offers are from Leopard to Snow Leopard.
If you've got an earlier OS X then you'll have to upgrade that to Leopard first.0 -
Thanks all - looks like I qualify for the up to date program as I bought mine on the 9th July, Will try the internet link in september as it just said my basket is empty0

Chap I used to work with was nicknamed "Snow Leopard"......
You knew he was there somewhere, but could you ever find him?
We did eventually, he was in his car taking a nap. :rotfl:“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I'd be amazed if they converted at the prevailing exchange rate Marty.
But even if it's £29 I'd be more than happy with that.
Wasn't the Leopard upgrade nearer £70?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
The reason this one is so cheap is that, as the name suggests, sticking with 'Leopard', it's not as big an update as the usual 'point' (ie 10.4 to 10.5) releases.
Leopard was universal, ie had G4&G5 and Intel code. Snow Leopard has hacked out all the G4&G5 stuff and optimised it for Intel. Quicktime has been updated, but the features are pretty thin on the ground.
Having said all that, I think it's definately worth the upgrade. By all means take on board Leopard's cautious words. I'm running the beta now and a few programmes don't like it, maybe this will be fixed by launch, but you still need to wait for some developers to adapt.
Just as an example of the improvements, Mail is far, far faster. Run in 10.5, spinning ball, opens. Run in 10.6 (beta! with more emails, same 2 accounts) and you don't even have time to move the mouse over before the window pops up. That's worth £20/£30 to me.
It's up for preorder in US on Amazon, and I'll be watching Amazon UK to order my copy too. Still have to feel a bit for the G4/G5 crowd if they won't be getting any more updates though.0 -

Also if you have a powerpc you will not be able to run snow leopard it only runs on macs with intel chipset. Which is very annoying for 2 of my macs (though one still runs tiger). So not sure its worth upgrading for just one mac when I cant upgrade the others.0 -
I've installed every update to OS X as soon as I could, and haven't had any problems. In fact, 10.0 was probably the worst of the lot of them (unsurprisingly), and I've found every subsequent release to be an improvement.
I plan on pre-ordering Snow Leopard and installing it as soon as Amazon deliver it.
I'll have everything backed up, so if it all goes horribly wrong, it's no big deal. :cool:0
