    Apple beat Windows 7 already...

Seriously though, getting Snow Leopard for the macbook and currently running Win7 RC 64bit on a Q6600 gaming PC. Better than vista, but the amount of times I see something it's done and think "That's similar to Leopard..."

I was talking to my father-in-law the other day about Windows 7 (he's a PC user, before anyone thinks I belong to some family of Mac fanatics), and he joked that Macs have had Windows 7 for years now. :p

A part of me thinks "how bad can it possibly be".... but all the changes are under the hood and 10.5 is already really stable. I hope I'm wrong anyway, but we'll find out soon enough i'm sure....

Mac OS X is already years ahead of Windows... so nothing to worry about there....

This shows it really well.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-2C2gb6ws8

Am I the only one that can't get it ordered through the up to date program? The serial number etc validates ok, but it adds nothing to the basket. Cookies are enabled of course as requested by the site. This is for a system bought from the Apple Store online. Is this what you did duncansby?

I had to do it a few times before it showed up in my basket and when it eventually did, 4 of them were added to my basket :D

    I did something like this:
Login to your Apple account normally through the store (click on accounts, then login)
Go to the up to date site and it will ask you to login again. After that, your basket should appear.

Hopefully, that will work. I did poke around my account beforehand to look at my last order too. I've no clue really as to which part of what I did persuaded the site to let me use the up-to-date program.

I agree with what others have said here. A few more updates, especially from other software manufacturers, before we see the real benefits (and stability) of this particular update.

For those of you that want to save a bit of cash... Snow Leopard is available at amazon for £23.99... although looks like you won't get it quite so quickly...

or get it from the Apple Store via Quidco for just a penny more (£24).

Signature: "In a word, neither death, nor exile, nor pain, nor anything of this kind is the real cause of our doing or not doing any action, but our inward opinions and principles - Epictetus."

The problems with this statement, as advanced, are that it commences with "In a word" but then uses 29 of them, that death would most certainly be a cause of not doing any action, that exile can physically prevent an action and that if somebody had dropped a rock on his foot, the reflex action of his yell would have been caused by his pain and not by his "inward opinions and principles".

But it suits your vanity and pretentiousness to perfection. :)

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

Well I had another thump about on the site yesterday and instead of clicking the link for 'if you bought in Apple Store online' I clicked on the link for the Apple Retail Store instead. Even though the computer was bought online, exactly the same details were requested, and I've now got Snow Leopard on the way for £8.

By the way, what does the 5-user "Family" edition cost under that scheme?

    For a normal purchase it's £15 more - £40, as opposed to £25 for a single user.

There's no family pack under their Up-to-Date programme.

    According to Apple:
Multiple Qualifying Computers on a Single Invoice

If you purchased multiple qualifying systems on a single invoice, you can either (1) purchase a Single-User Upgrade Kit for each qualifying product, at a cost of £7.95*; or (2) purchase fewer Single-User Upgrade Kits and request the Right to Copy for the remaining qualifying products.

Hey, I was just glad to get the damn thing into the basket! Don't worry, I'm fully up to speed with Quidco and have used it to purchase Macs in the past. Mine shipped today anyway, saying estimated delivery date is 2nd Sept. Some nice new desktop backgrounds in it...
